20 years ago, Chris was in New Hampshire photographing John Kerry and his wife Teresa Heinz for People magazine. It was a super snowy evening and he was fighting with a D1X, an early digital Nikon camera. It was horrible in low light and all of the highlights would blow out. The highlight of the evening was seeing David Burnett and his Speed Graphic. What a crazy time!

We worked with Behavioral Health System Baltimore (BHSB) to create videos for the 'Focus on Equity' section of their 2022 Impact Report. Three BHSB team members talked with us about their experiences as part of a workgroup to advance equity. Their stories highlight the work that BHSB is doing to become an antiracist organization. Each team member shared their own perspective, providing a broader sense of how this work affects the organization and the communities they serve.

One of the coolest parts of our job is that we're always learning something new. For the past several years, we've worked with the FNIH to create videos honoring the recipients of their Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences. The research is so fascinating!

Here's the video with 2021 Lurie Prize recipient, Dr. Xiaowei Zhuang. Her research lab at Harvard pioneered the development of super-resolution microscopy and genome-scale imaging showing new spacial and functional organizations of molecules and cells. Check out our website to see more!

Sometimes we just take a walk and look for nice light. We shoot in five or six locations along the way, and it's usually a great conversation as we go!

We shot the Quaker Chemical annual report for several years. It was always a great shoot in really cool locations: steel mills, auto factories and coal mines. We were in a West Virginia coal mine, shooting at the rock face where the mining happens, when our "Mantrip" (the little train that takes you in) broke down. We were 3-1/2 miles in when the engine stopped working. It would have been a long walk out with all of our equipment. An older miner whom we were traveling with grunted, got out of the train, pulled out a hammer, and the engine started right up. Nothing can replace 30 years in a coal mine.

We've always admired the partnership between Johns Hopkins University and Henderson-Hopkins, a Baltimore City School. So we were really excited when they approached us to produce an Admissions Video for their virtual school fair last Fall. We really enjoyed talking to their principal, teachers, parents and students, and hearing about the amazing experience and education they give their students!

Mysteries of the Monument

On July 4, 1815, Baltimoreans laid the cornerstone of the Washington monument - the first monument in the U.S. to honor George Washington. Just over 200 years later, a restoration team unearthed the cornerstone, which included a copy of the Declaration of Independence! We worked with Mount Vernon Place Conservancy during the 2014 - 2015 restoration to capture the discovery - watch the video to learn more about the history of this Baltimore landmark!
