Kitchens for Good. When people have troubled pasts or complicated circumstances, it can feel impossible to find stability or build a career. Whether they’re transitioning from incarceration, foster care, or homelessness, escaping domestic violence, or struggling with mental health or substance use, society has a tendency to overlook them. So they feel stuck – unable to reach a better future.
At Kitchens for Good, they believe every human deserves a chance to reach their potential. Through their apprenticeship program, the apprentices gain the knife skills and life skills they need to launch meaningful careers, so they can move forward in life and make a positive impact on their communities.

The Salton Sea
The Salton Sea is a shallow, saline, endorheic rift lake on the San Andreas Fault at the southern end of the U.S. state of California. It lies between, and within, the Imperial and Coachella valleys, all of which lie within the larger Salton Trough, a pull-apart basin that stretches to the Gulf of California in Mexico. The lake occupies the lowest elevations of the trough, known as the Salton Sink, where the lake surface is 236.0 ft (71.9 m) below sea level as of January 2018.[1] The deepest point of the lake is only 5 ft (1.5 m) higher than the lowest point of Death Valley. The New, Whitewater, and Alamo rivers, combined with agricultural runoff, are the primary sources that feed the lake.
Over millions of years, the Colorado River has flowed into the Imperial Valley and deposited alluvium (soil) creating fertile farmland, building up the terrain and constantly moving its main (or only) river delta. For thousands of years, the river has alternately flowed into and out of the valley, alternately creating a freshwater lake, an increasingly saline lake, and a dry desert basin, depending on river flows and the balance between inflow and evaporative loss. The cycle of filling has been about every 400–500 years and has repeated many times.
Kitchens For Good
When people have a troubled past, or complex life circumstances, they’re often labeled “unemployable.” As a result, they feel stuck—powerless to escape a life of poverty.
Kitchens for Good believes that all food has power and that all people have potential. We equip individuals with culinary and hospitality training, as well as the life skills they need to launch meaningful careers so they can move forward in life and make a positive impact on their communities. Not only do apprentices gain valuable training, they contribute to bettering their community by fighting food waste and hunger. Apprentices prepare thousands of healthy meals for hungry San Diegans, using surplus and cosmetically imperfect produce from wholesalers and farmers.
Kitchens for Good ensures its sustainability through a catering and food service enterprise that offers on-the-job training for all apprentices, and generates revenue to reinvest in our programs. Kitchens for Good

Traditional time-lapse involves taking photos at a regular interval with a camera mounted on a tripod. Hyperlapse relies on the time-lapse principle, but adds movement over much longer distances. This technique allows to use long exposures to create motion blur. The resulting image sequence is stabilized in post-production. The camera can also be mounted on a hand-held gimbal to achieve smooth motion while walking, or in this case aerial videography. This short sequence was shot over a 20 minute period using an ND 64 Polar Pro filter and a 1/4 shutter speed.
