I've been living in the theater with my two Sony 7riii's and in front of my video editing station nonstop since Thanksgiving to produce three films - one for public consumption, and two for the young cast member families. It was such a honor to work with Portland Stage in this capacity. The acting talent, the costumes, the set, the lighting, the special effects - including puppets (my favorite thing ever - my dog is named after a character in the Dark Crystal), flying beds, ghosts, and young cast members learning alongside pros from around the country (like my own daughter did in Steamboat Springs as a child who now studies theater).

My Christmas wish is that all of my friends who have an extra $25 this holiday season will support Portland Stage by buying a digital ticket. When they had to cancel its biggest revenue generator due to COVID this season, they still chose to support its artists and staff by running the full production for a very nonprofitable digital on demand product. They are inpsiring leaders in the arts in New England. I am proud to work for them.

Photos in front of a greenscreen are turned into these stop motion videos we use to market the shoes before we get dress rehearsal videos. They mimick the posters we design with greenscreen as well. It was such a pleasure to shoot these talented actors: Scott Moreau, Morgan Morse, Elizabeth Nestlerode, Katie Barton, Ben Hope, all members of Actors' Equity.

In theater photography, the photos rely 90% on the artistry of the designers of the theatrical experience. The "setups" of the actors themselves co-and associate directed by Ben Hope, Katie Barton and Scott Moreau. The Scenic Design Concept and Adaptations by Ben Hope & Anita Stewart, Lighting Design by Jamie Grant, and of course, the stage manager for keeping it organized and giving me access to the stage Myles C. Hatch.

This was a very successful shoot. What works on the stage does not always work equally well for the camera, but my eye and my gear loved this show. (so did my ears. get your tickets if you haven't yet. it's running through Aug 29 at Portland Stage).

The show continues at Portland Stage through Aug. 29, then will be available to stream on demand.

Doing live theatre is especially gratifying after spending the last year in a closet doing voices for an animated series
