All this new tech is pretty neat! How dose your local museum embrace new technology or methods to enhance it's educational value?

Tourist destinations in many regions are facing restrictions. As a result, it is crucial that museums continue to offer alternative, virtual experiences to the public to increase engagement and revenue.

We are living in a world where, driven by necessity or even simply convenience, the ability to remotely access information as well as having a well-conceived web presence is a true opportunity for museums and one we must grab without question. All of us know very well what interoperability enables u

Some great programming coming from one of our favorite sites!

In celebration of Women's History Month, we'll be sharing information every Wednesday about the different women who lived and worked at Fort Niagara throughout the 18th century, culminating in a free Zoom lecture on March 31st, 2021 at 7:00pm.

Today's post is a tribute to the women who were formally attached to military regiments! European militaries in the 18th century relied upon the labor of women who were married to enlisted men. These women, whose marriages first had to be approved of by commanding officers, were required to work for the military, providing necessary services like laundry, nursing, and petty sutlering (the selling of small wares). Military women were paid for their labor and it was not uncommon for them to earn more money than their husbands on a daily basis. Pictured here is Hana, one of our civilian interpreters, demonstrating the 18th century laundry process.

On March 31st at 7:00 pm EST, Hana will be presenting "A Colorful Life: Elizabeth Simcoe's Niagara Experience". Reserve your spot by emailing [email protected]. Spots are limited.

Here is 'Le Commis' hard at work in the trade room of the French Castle. Le Commis was the King’s agent who ran the fur trading operation at Fort Niagara. For most of its history, the French trade at Niagara was run by a King’s agent rather than being licensed to a private individual. Photo by Lee Gugino.

We ofter hear from our clients that visitation to historic sites and museums isn't what it used to be. We wanted to do some research this issue. This is a great article by Bob Beatty written for Hyperallergic.com.
Here's the article. See our post about historic site visitation on our Instagram.

In attempting to gauge whether attendance at American cultural institutions is indeed declining, many commentators often conflate “museum” with “art museum,” but art museums comprise only about 4.5% of American museums, while history institutions, comprise about 55.5%.
