R.I.P. Phil Shuey.

Phil Shuey was a pioneering film producer and educator who dedicated his life to utilizing the power of cinema to create social change and educate people. Born in Dayton, Ohio in 1944, Phil grew up in the city until he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. After his service, he enrolled at Antioch College to study film production.
In 1967, Phil married his wife under a tall tree near New Carlisle, Ohio, and the couple remained happily married for 55 years. In 1977, Phil and his family moved to California, where he continued to establish himself as a talented film producer and educator. He served as the President at Audio Visual Strategies, a Los Angeles-based production company, and was known for his expertise in community media and digital marketing.
Phil was passionate about using video as a tool for community organizing and grassroots education. He was a visionary who recognized the power of visual media to engage and inspire audiences, and he dedicated his passion to running the CINDY Awards, a project he held close to his heart for over 30 years. Through CINDYS, Phil aimed to help others gain exposure in their respective fields.
Aside from his work in film production, Phil was also an avid blues fan and loved listening to his favorite guitarists while working on his vintage car collection. Although Phil passed away on December 22, 2022, his legacy continues to live on. His impact on the film production industry and his dedication to using cinema as a tool for promoting social change and education continues to inspire others in the field.

CINDYS is continuing on and will keep his memory alive.
