An atmospheric river remains on track to impact our region Friday into Saturday. Light to moderate rain will spread into the region Friday, with heavier rain expected late Friday night through Saturday morning. Western Nevada could see a brief break in rain Friday evening, but this could lead to more wind. With high soil saturation from rains and strong winds, trees could be uprooted or damaged. The threat of tree damage could also extend into Saturday, as stronger winds push through with a cold front passage. Overall expect mainly minor flood impacts, but more significant issues are possible in flood prone areas and/or if rainfall lingers a bit longer.

They are still awake in Mammoth Lakes. Did you know that black bears in the Sierra Nevada are not considered "true" hibernators? They may remain active in milder winters and when food sources are available to sustain them. However, they will hibernate when the energy required to obtain food exceeds the calories they can take in. Hibernation allows them to reach a lower metabolic rate to get through the winter on the fat stores they built up in the fall months. Photo by Janelle Walker.
