So I did a thing… I needed wall art for my dining room that tied the colors in the dining and living rooms together: black, gold, greys and silver. I have other accent colors but I needed the gold and silver to stand out.

I’ve been looking online and in person at any store that sells wall art and wasn’t impressed or I didn’t wanna pay over $300 for something I didn’t wanna commit to. Then I saw a random short on YouTube by .paintings… I fell in love w her art and decided to duplicate it. 😍

Patience is NOT my strength so waiting for acrylics to dry should tell you a lot about me lol but I loved how it turned out. And now I have to make a second for my mother in all gold. I’m not gonna move from DJing to painting but this was a great stress relief project and I can’t wait to get started on one for my mother and one for my friend. 🙌🏾💕 Also, thank you for your help and advice on getting my first big piece done! You the goat!!!

It’s the INTRO for meeeeee… memories!!!

Me, 17, summer of 1999, high school graduate w a part time job, freshly baptized, passenger side of my boyfriends green Pontiac Grand AM GT, windows down, long hair flowing, body was bodying, lip gloss popping, on our way to be in these Chicago streets with our friends in the back seat. A whole vibe back when hip hop was on 1000 and Hype Williams videos ruled MTV. I was bad and I didn’t even know it.

You couldn’t tell us we weren’t on top of the world!!! No real bills or obligations except: Look good at all times while gettin ya money up!!! I looked good and my man was undefeated. Good lookin dude, always fly, J’s w every fit, full time job, cell phone, pager, a dope ride, and he wasn’t a drug dealer… We were a THING!!!!

Everything was so simple at seventeen, and I definitely took it for granted. Just to go back to those days and relive the carefree life and endless summer days. It wasn’t wasted but I wish I had done so much more with them. Youth is definitely wasted on the youth. Cheers to the good old days

It’s crazy how all the guys who were my friend before I became a DJ disappeared or turned on me when I got serious with my craft. And over time, the same ones who were cool with me when I was unknown weren’t as friendly or helpful as I became more successful. Here are some of the insane things I’ve heard:

- I’ll teach you how to DJ or give you music if you let me hit
- You’re just a gimmick, a pair of t**s with no real talent
- You just wanna be seen, you won’t last a year
- Quit, no one will take you seriously
- You’re a supporting DJ, not the main DJ

I’ve been discounted, discredited and discriminated against to just devalue me and make me disappear. Yeah, nah… Can’t get rid of me that easily. No clown will stop my grind!!! Despite the opposition, I’ve traveled all over the country. Created platforms that are still being used and copied today. Played alongside some dope DJs. Featured & Headlined some amazing events. Opened for quite a few artists. And so much more, I’m grateful for the things I’ve achieved in my 10+ years of DJing.

I’m also thankful that there are a small handful of male DJs that I can still call on when I need advice, a confidential ear or an ally to do business with. And my fellow female DJs, not a drop of animosity among us, we share the same struggle and we’re all trying to accomplish the same thing: GREATNESS in a male dominated industry.

To my aspiring female DJs, dont let these men stop, hinder, bully, or swindle you out of success. Keep going, keep fighting!
