Our Story
Welcome to the Austin American-Statesman’s investigations page. Some of our best, most important work starts with tips – information or documents we might not otherwise see.
Who we are: We are the newspaper’s investigative team – five reporters, a computer data journalist and an editor. Together we have more than 130 years of newspaper experience, and a commitment to digging until we get to the truth. The newspaper supports our work by giving us the time we need to tell stories that make a difference in people’s lives.
What we do: We keep an eye on powerful people and institutions to make sure they act the way they’re supposed to. This includes the government and elected officials, but also businesses and others in positions of authority or power. Are they mishandling the public’s money? Betraying your trust by giving favors to their friends and supporters? Hurting the people close to you?
