Ok or not ok to workout when you’ve been sick?

I was puny all weekend, ran a low grade fever for 24 hours, and was feeling good enough to go to work today but still not 100%.

I’ve had giant bags under my eyes indicating inflammation as well.

I felt the urge to sweat out the lingering issues. And now I feel better!!

What I did NOT do:
- cardio
- HIIT
- high impact
- heavy weights

These can cause you to exhaust your cortisol too much. Your cortisol rises to assist your immune system in fighting something off and recovering. You want it to be reserved for that important work.

What I did do:
- low impact barre workout
- low weights and loops with tons of reps
- moderate heart rate to induce a cleansing sweat
- extended somatic stretching at the end to give lymphatic release and flush my system
- deep breathing to wrap up

Sometimes we need to move out what’s causing heaviness and lethargy whether that’s physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. ❤️

Now, what to do with this ugly, “country” dresser that is an eyesore in my room. I want to update it so bad! That’s gotta be for another day… 😂

A lil hey there since there are so many new followers the last few days!

Hi, I’m Miranda, 45 year old midlife mom. Here’s a few share worthy tidbits so you know who you’re following and if you want to stay. 😉

1. I am a nonprofit marketing professional by day. I love the mission and doing work that makes a difference in the world.

2. As soon as work is done, I’m in workout clothes or sweats. And I mean, I go from the car to my closet ASAP. I prefer comfy to bougie!

3. My daughter is a brain cancer survivor and the reason I have a passion for wellness. She is my hero and a huge source of inspiration!

4. I’m one of “those” moms who over-loves her kids. They’re the most amazing humans I know. My boys are almost 26, almost 23, 22 (a beautiful foster-like situation), and my girls are 21 (cancer survivor), and 15.

5. I am obsessed with research. Currently, I am aiming to resolve the perimenopause struggles that arrive in your early 40s. I’ve made astounding progress I can wait to share more of to offer solace and relief to my lady friends in this season of transition.

6. I’m also looking at neuroplasticity and how to rewire the brain with guided meditation, ketamine, and therapeutic psilocybin.

7. I read books like crazy, mostly nonfiction, but take a fiction break every 5 or 6 books I read.

8. I have adrenal fatigue from years of chronic stress and toxic relationships that maxed out my cortisol and put me in adrenal insufficiency, which I have been addressing for 10 years now.

9. I am a highly sensitive empath. If I’m in your presence, I’m feeling your energy and seeing straight through the facade to your heart.

10. I am not really funny unless it’s on accident. If I do offer an attempt at humor, it is usually excessively corny or doesn’t come out quite right.

11. I talk a lot until I’m done. Then it’s quiet, quiet, quiet.

12. I LOVE being in the company of women with beautiful souls. I love to listen to you, serve you in any way I can, share stories and experiences, and just enjoy female fellowship in this season of life.

13. Obsessed with nontoxic living!! Food, cleaners, supplements, beauty products, alllllll the things.

14. I HATE small talk. Give me the meat.

15. I want nothing more than to serve Jesus with my life. ❤️

Attention women 35 and up!

Did you know:
Perimenopause is the beginning of a natural decline in estrogen, which increases visceral fat mass, decreases bone mass density, muscle mass, and strength.

When your hormone levels start to fall, it can have a profound impact on your joints. Your joints can become stiffer, causing flexibility and range of motion to decrease significantly over time.

Low back pain?
Hip pain?

The decline in estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA combined with an increase in cortisol that seems to come naturally with this season of life due to stress of raising teens, sending kids off to college, career changes or stagnancy in creative outlets, body changes, relationship and financial issues, etc. can wreak havoc on your joints and flexibility.

To top it off, estrogen is protective for your joints and bones and progesterone is the soothing salve for estrogen’s darker side that can causes anger, mood swings, and weight gain. The decline of both can leave you feeling really off physically and emotionally!

Perimenopausal and menopausal women should consider a health and well-being program that includes:
- moderate weightlifting or resistance exercises to help mitigate muscle loss

- an abundance of stretching when your muscles are warm; think 10-15 minutes of stretching post walking or workout

- yoga, Pilates, or barre are great options that include both resistance training and stretching for an all-in-one protocol

- walks in nature to connect with the earth

- going barefoot outside; proven to lower cortisol and help with balance hormones

- meditation and prayer

- adequate and high quality sleep

- stress reduction wherever and however possible

- balanced meals with tons of veggies, high protein, and seeds (seeds help balance hormones)

- supplements as necessary for individual deficiencies or gaps; there ARE natural things you can take that do help without HRT.

Recipe share!!

Here are two recipes I made this week and one I posted about two weeks ago a lot of you had asked for. They are all SO good! #1 is best for Saturday or Sunday when you have a little more time to cook. #2 and 3 are one pan meals so perfect for weeknights!

1) Comforting Cauliflower Crust Pie
- I add 1.5lbs clean ground beef with this. You could easily do ground turkey or shredded chicken.
- I also do half a package of frozen kale instead of broccoli.
- I use a 9x13 casserole pan because added meat takes up a lot more space!

2) One Pan Turkey Taco Quinoa Bowls
- I used clean beef instead of turkey.
- I served this in a bowl on top of sautéed kale with chopped avocados on top.

- I used chicken tenderloins instead of breasts because they’re easier to cut into chunks.
- I subbed the condensed milk with cream of coconut.
- I used Zuchini pasta instead of wheat.
- I used frozen asparagus rather than fresh because it’s what I had.
- I suggest using double the Parmesan cheese it calls for. Lol

—Start feeding your adrenal glands,
—Cut out endocrine disrupters in your home and beauty care products, including fragrances for body and home,
—Don’t use anything that’s food or beverage in nature that comes in plastic containers that aren’t BPA free,
—Lift weights as a regular part of your exercise regimen,
—Learn to manage stress healthfully.

When you hit your early 40s and start to feel perimenopause symptoms, you’ll GYN will recommend birth control and antidepressants or just tell you to toughen up and deal with it.

Yes, even in 2023!!!

I JUST left my GYN’s office for a question asking appt and that’s what she said, verbatim. She didn’t even want to order labs…she said it’s pointless. 😳😳😳

Don’t know why I wasted my time TBH…

I have been studying and researching like crazy to understand this season.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

Your ovaries begin a slow retirement process and your adrenal glands pick up the hormone regulating responsibilities.

The more shot your adrenals are, the harder time you’ll have. (I was diagnosed with massive adrenal fatigue at 36.)

If you’ve been exposed to decades of endocrine disrupters, you’ll have a harder time with the menopause process. (I just became aware of this one year ago and have worked to fix it.)

Plastics and heavy metals wreak major havoc on your propensity for cancer and make a mess of your hormones (I.e toxic estrogen). These toxins block the hormone receptors on your cells so they can’t adequately pick up hormones your pituitary gland signals to be released to keep you well balanced.

Now to make an appt with my integrative/functional med doc like I should have done in the first place.

So, take care of your adrenals early and go full blown nontoxic with all your stuff. I so wish someone had told me 20 years ago!!

And don’t bother with seeing a lady doctor for help with lady life processes unless yours has some training in integrative/holistic/natural health. They’re brain washed with 50 year old protocols in med school.

Advocate for your health!!!!!!

I paid over $60,000 to go to college.

I have worked in multiple jobs making $45,000-$65,000 a year working 40+ hours a week using my "college degree."

In the last 12 years, I have worked various network marketing businesses, seeing anywhere from $6000-95,000/yr working 20-40+ hours/week but it was HARD and took forever to build. It also crashed easily because income was mostly dependent on the work my team did and not my own work ethic or success in sales.

In the last month I’ve added in affiliate marketing for several products where all I do is use things I love and share about them. Income primarily comes from my own success in sales. It’s not dependent upon team building.

I’ve doubled my usual side hustle income in four weeks from $500 to nearly $1500 working just a few hours a week. I also get about $1000/mo in residual income from an old MLM for doing nothing.

Make it make sense! I am not telling you that you have to leave your 8-5 (I won’t) but I am telling you there are other ways to create extra streams of income that will require less time and create more time freedom!

I never thought I could build something so fast with so little work and see a future of being debt free and being able to travel more!

Excuses…

It’s not as simple as saying to someone, “stop making excuses and just do it.”

There must be space for compassion and empathy…a willingness to look deeper than the surface and consider the weight they might be carrying that’s holding them back from things they wholeheartedly want to do.

Trauma - little t and big T trauma is real.

Adrenal fatigue

Struggles with unworthiness

Limiting beliefs

A major stressor or crisis with health, finances, family, or friends

Grief

Burnout

Scarcity mindset

Overwhelm

Trouble asking for help

Stepping in with support and compassion goes a lot further towards empowering someone to change than just saying “stop making excuses.”

There’s an inner child in each one of us needing healing to move forward in anything even remotely triggering.

Compassion wins every time.

Inflammation!!!

It is a chronic issue for so many, can be a silent killer or the source of annoying symptoms.

A few years ago, I started suffering from adrenal fatigue and ensuing low cortisol, which made my long gone childhood asthma resurface along with acne, inability to lose weight, abdominal bloating, overall puffiness, and more. Hello, inflammation!

I also develop Interstitial Cystitis after multiple UTI's and low blood pressure...whew!

After much trial and error, I have found the following to be extremely helpful:
1) For low blood pressure because of adrenal fatigue, I take liquid licorice root drops - helped after just one month of treatment! Two drops in my water twice a day.
2) Marshamllow Root - 2 500mg capsules twice a day for maintenance; 2 500mg capsules 3 times a day for UTI or asthma flare up.
3) D-Mannose capsules - same protocol as Marshmallow Root
4) Cut out acidic coffee and replace with a mushroom coffee like Four Sigmatic or Mud Water.
5) Eliminate or cut wayyyyyy back on alcohol.
6) Eliminate artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, saccharin, maltodextrin, etc. Use Stevia!! The flavored liquid drops are amazing...I use Better Stevia English Toffee in my coffee. So good!
7) Eat real foods; eliminate processed foods, grains, gluten, and dairy one by one to see how your body responds. I guarantee you you'll lose belly bloat, have increased energy, reduce acne and get that skin glowing, and more!

The power to choose...

To the extent to which we believe we have the power to choose, our choices expand.

Ever tried to make a change you consciously WANT to make and then feel like your brain and life are doing everything they can to stop you? It's because they are.

Our brain is wired to keep us safe, comfortable, out of the danger zone of the unknown, tucked away in the ruts of the ways we have always done things.

We fool ourselves into thinking we can will-power our way out of the darkness and into the light of the new habit we so desire to cultivate. Will power is nothing more than an extension of ego, and it is failure waiting to happen because it has no power over what we believe at a subconscious, soul level.

Hear me: anything we aim to do that contradicts what we believe about ourselves, God, people, or the world will fail.

Change and growth can only happen when we confront our beliefs.

Bob Goff writes in his book, Dream Big, "The reality is this: the life you're currently living is the accumulation of your choices and commitments to date."

And every single choice and commitment we make is simply a reflection of what we believe.

Cycling through one bad relationship after another? Or longing for a relationship but unable to snag one?
Belief: Love is hard, rare, or unsafe and I am unworthy of it, unlovable, and will be miserable or alone my entire life because that's the way it is.

---> Change the belief to "love is safe, easy, and I am deserving because God calls me His beloved."

Yo yo dieting and never able to lose the weight no matter what workout or meal plan you try?
Belief: Food is comfort and I need to feel comforted by food; I'm not an "exercise person" and my body doesn't respond. I cannot lose weight and am destined to be overweight and unhealthy because _____(diets don't work, healthy food is expensive, genetics, build, hormones, etc.).

--> Change the belief to "God made me to move, my body is a temple worthy of healthy food, and I know I can borrow Jesus' strength because He lives in me. God's power knows no limits and He is in me! I deserve to be healthy and feel good!"

Change the belief and all of a sudden your brain gets on your side and you don't have to solicit will power to make a change; you get SOUL POWER! And that, sweet friend, is where we become unstoppable!

Limiting beliefs convince us our ambitions aren't truly available. Bob Goff writes, "they are the invisible ghosts whispering that we'll never make it, that we can't accomplish our ambitions, that we missed our chance."

So, how do we do that?

My personal practice is to flip the script on Satan's lies by using the glass half full story he tells me against him by pointing out how God is using it for my good and His glory.

Case in point:
Lie: Miranda, you aren't good at relationships. Every relationship you've ever had has been hard, whether friends, lovers, bosses, coworkers, it doesn't matter...all hard, all painful, all disappointing.
Truth: But God... "Listen here, Satan, human beings aren't perfect so neither are our relationships. God has taught me something important about myself and Him in every relationship so there is no such thing as a relationship failure. Some people are meant for a lifetime and others are meant for a season. I believe what God says about me...I am loved, He delights in me, I am beautifully and wonderfully made in His very image. You have no sovereignty over my mind; only Jesus reigns here."

We are what we believe.
Our lives reflect what we believe.
Our choices show what we believe.

Beliefs CAN change.
It's work.
It's simple but not easy.
That's where God does His best work, though. In our surrender, we make space for Him.

Repeat the new belief.
Write it everywhere over and over.
Combat satan's lies with God's truth every time a limiting thought pops up. "Take every thought captive..."

Take action aligned with the belief you're trying to cultivate while you wait for it to stick! Action dispels fear faster than anything!
