MIDWEST BEAT with TOM LOUNGES" is a weekly radio program aired on WLPR-89.1FM / Lakeshore Public Rad Music of all genres and styles.
This twice weekly radio program "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges" evolved from "Midwest BEAT Magazine," once a Chicagoland monthly music magazine published and edited by Tom Lounges. It was distributed free of charge in a wide range of record shops, music stores, restaurants, night clubs, video stores, at college campus bookstores and at a variety of other businesses. It's mission was to support goo
d music that mattered on a local, regional and national level. That same mission is the focus of this namesake radio program. HISTORY: MIDWEST BEAT MAGAZINE was first founded back in 1979 by local music fan and aspiring music journalist, Tom Lounges, who remained at the helm of the magazine for its three decade run as publisher, editor and visionary. "Midwest BEAT Magazine" was the second longest running free entertainment-oriented publication in the Chicagoland market, and one that never lost it’s grass roots flavor and approach to covering the regional scene. Today's radio program "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges" remains dedicated to the magazine's mission of promoting fresh new talent as well as remembering veteran artists who have a legacy and play an important part in the history of music. Thank you for reading our colorful history and for continuing to help Tom Lounges support and expose music that matters on all lovels and of all styles.
Tonight at Montego Bay Grile in downtown, Tom Lounges Entertainment, LLC presents a night acoustic music with Lauren Dukes and Steve Ball.

For a series of limited dates this summer, JADE 50s have been joined by Midwest music icon, RICK "ELVIS" SAUCEDO. That show comes to Northwest Indiana for ONE NIGHT ONLY, on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th at Hobart Art Theater.
JADE 50s were the band chosen by rock production icons Dick Clark and Wolfman Jack to do cross-country tours as the backing band for such legends of rock 'n' roll as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Dion, The Shirelles, Chubby Checker, Tommy James, Johnny Rivers, Ronnie Spector and dozens of others.
RICK SAUCEDO first hit the stage in black leather and jumpsuits back in 1972. Rick Saucedo is credited as being the first Elvis Tribute Artist in America. More than 50 years later... Rick is still keeping the KING's music alive on stage with his high energy performances.

Kiely is a lady of hearty stock -- hailing from the working class community of Hammond, Indiana -- but now calling Nashville, Tennessee her home.
Lakeshore Public Media listeners will get to know this talented artist during the course of tonight's interview, and hear some songs from Kiely's latest full length album, "My Own Company," released by Thirty Tigers Records.
Drawing inspiration from her native blue collar Midwest community, Kiely creates songs not quite like anything currently being cranked out on Music Row.
At a time when most country and Americana artists are forging a similar path, Kiely takes her audience on a different kind of journey with a cache of songs blending old school roots that harkens back to when her musical genre of choice was still called "Country & Western."
Her lyrics -- often somber and on the darker edge -- are delivered with grit and soulfulness. Her rich and broad vocal range, said to range four octaves, is utilized selectively and as the song dictates.
Some have compared Kiely to the likes of Patsy Cline, Joan Baez, and Joni Mitchell, comparisons not off base. Kiely's music and performances have elements recalling all three, but also a style and sound all her own.
Unique in today's world of Americana/Roots music, Kiely Connell is a gifted artist who has a penchant for writing enriching story songs and delivering them well. This young lady is a talent on the rise and certainly one to watch.

Northwest Indiana-based modern rock band NOMAD PLANETS -- has made a name for themselves over the years throughout the Chicagoland area -- with their well produced, well-written original music and rock solid live performances.
Tonight's radio program will feature some of the band's members live in studio to talk about the group's longevity, their songs, upcoming dates, and their soon-to-be released CD, "OUTSIDE ABIQUIU."
That new 13-track collection of original songs is scheduled to drop on September 14th and a few of those new NOMAD PLANET songs will make their radio debut during the course of this show.

On Friday, August 23rd at the First United Methodist Church (352 S. Main St.) in Crown Point, the third annual "VetRock" concert will be held. The event benefits Disabled American Veterans and features performances by the NWI bands NAWTY and MR. FUNNYMAN.
Joining show host Tom Lounges this evening on 89.1-FM for Lakeshore Public Radio's for the weekly interview/music program, "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges," will be event founder and host, Pastor Mark Wilkins, along with members of the two musical groups who are donating performances for the event.

Musical Guest: SLIM JIM PHANTOM of The Stray Cats
The musical guest for this week's edition of "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges" is SLIM JIM PHANTOM of rockabilly revivalists THE STRAY CATS, who are currently on a limited run U.S. Tour that brings them to the Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana on Saturday, August 10th for an 8pm concert in The Hard Rock Live auditorium.
The Hard Rock Casino show will open with THE MIDNIGHT COWGIRLS, featuring Phantom's rockin' wife JENNIE VEE.
Phantom is the drummer and co-founder of the famous rock trio who debuted in 1979 and re-booted the sound of '50s rock 'n' roll with a healthy dose of punk rock attitude. The native New Yorkers completed their sound by looking the part with piled high pompadours, a stand up bass, and a drummer who played his kit standing up so he was free to jump, jive and dance with the rest of the band and fans.
Among the group's best known and successful hits were "Stray Cat Strut," "(She's) Sexy & 17," "Rock This Town," "Gene And Eddie," and "I Won't Stand In Your Way."
Stray Cats also released a successful new 40th Anniversary album in 2019, aptly titled "40," containing a dozen brand new songs. Two of those tracks, released as singles -- "Three Times A Charm" and "Cry Danger" -- are both featured during this interview with Phantom.
