Skywarn is a program created by the National Weather Service whose purpose is, above all, to save lives and property. The idea behind this program is to have NWS-trained weather spotters look for the visible signs of severe weather in their area and report these sightings directly to the local NWS Field Office or go through an Amateur Radio Net. Ottawa County Skywarn is an organization composed of

interested individuals whose major purpose is to provide volunteer county wide severe weather spotting services.

***Sandusky County Skywarn has agreed to assist Ottawa County Skywarn while Ottawa County is in a building phase and on our way to be an independent Skywarn group.

We are getting multiple reports of funnel clouds and water spouts on the east end of the county. Several of these photos and videos were sent to NWS Cleveland which prompted a special marine warning for Lake Erie. The weather service has advised these could occur this afternoon but are unlikely to cause tornadoes or any damage. We are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Ottawa County has been added to the slight risk area for severe weather today. The risk with storms today will be strong winds. This setup is not like last week with a line of storms, the storms will be more scattered. Anybody the storms will be capable of strong winds. The best chance of storms will be after 6 this evening.
