To give you an idea of how i create a content strategy when going in cold...When I'm working with brands who don't have consistent data to fall back on, the first thing I do is formulate a plan based on my past experience, researching what the industry is currently doing and what is working in other industries. Then I look at the brand values, voice, and offerings.

You take all of info and make a Strategy Martini 🍸- shaken, not stirred 😋. Once you get feedback, you tweak the strategy and so on and so forth.

The more you understand your brand and voice and your audience...The alignment starts to happen 🌻

For the record, I filmed this after laying out in the sun for an hour. Do when the inspiration is there. 😆

In 3✨ steps, you can step up your social media feed game...

So often I see businesses posting content that may be good, but isn't capturing the attention it could potentially.

1. Don't use your business logo in your posts.

This may seem counterintuitive after spending money on brand identity, but let me explain. Social media is a place where you are building community and sharing value. If you use your logo in every post, this can appear extremely spammy, as if you are just in this for the money and credit.

Pro Tip: include your @ username in each post. This way, if people share your content they still know where it's from!

2. Be consistent with colors (using your brand colors is a bonus), Fonts (have a font for headings, subheadings, and paragraphs), and photo coloring.

Consistency is what can really make your feed look cohesive.

Pro tip: Try using the same size fonts for your headings, if you tend to use natural light for your photos- stick with that for the majority of your photos.

3. Utilize whitespace or negative space. Great design does not mean you have a lot going on. Some of my most successful posts for clients have been extremely simple graphics with plenty of space around images, and text with ample breathing room.

STOP OVERTHINKING 1 PIECE OF CONTENT (she said to herself)...

Ya'll, let me tell you (I can say ya'll now, right? I've been in Texas for almost a year... 💁‍♀️).

ANYWAY...I have been STRUGGLING with what to post. How can I craft the perfect caption that is EXACTLY what my audience wants to hear at EXACTLY the right time? I want to provide value, be authentic (hashtag relatable), it can't be too short or too long...

You can see where this is going.

All day long, I am crafting content for clients and writing website copy, and I still have post ideas that come to me while I'm trying to fall asleep - for others. But for me? Simon & Garfunkle. Sound of Silence. Nada.

Then it hit me. Share THIS. This moment of struggle.

1. This shows that it is normal to struggle to come up with content or to get out of a creative rut when you have a million other obligations.

2. If you are struggling with what to share - it is OK to share what is really going on behind the scenes. How are you feeling? What are you busy working on? etc.

AND 3. Having a marketing person work for you can really take some of your burden off of your shoulders so that you can focus on managing and growing your business. Instead of writing another Facebook post or updating your website.

Does following a bunch of accounts on Instagram grow your account?? AKA the Follow/Unfollow strategy.

I once attended a webinar probably back in 2017 when I first started thinking about starting this business. I was consuming every piece of content I could get my hands on. The webinar was probably titled something like "How to get 1000 followers in a day".

This dude told us to follow 100 accounts an hour an on each account 'like' 7 of their photos and leave 1 comment.

I call this 'technique' Blowin' Up Their Phone...You know, like when someone REALLY wants to reach you NOW and they decide to call you 20 times, send you 30 text messages, and 2 emails 😜.

The problem with blowing up someone's Instagram notifications is 1. it's annoying and 2. it's disingenuous.

People want REAL followers! Ya Know?!

The same goes for just following people and hoping they Follow you back and it can actually end up biting you in the ass.

Most of the time the people who end up following you and not engaging which can actually be a huge problem down the line if you end up with a ton of dead followers and little engagement.

👉 Here is what I suggest instead!

🎉 Be specific about who you follow. Target people who are ideal for the community you want to build.

🎉 Engage with those accounts regularly. Develop a relationship. (I like to watch their stories and comment if it feels right)

🎉 Don't forget about your current followers. Engage with them in the same way (This can be a great boost for engagement in general.

The notion that follower count = more sales is a little bit of a false statement. I have seen follower counts extremely high with very low engagement and interest in the brand and content and I have seen smaller accounts with an “all-in” audience.

I invite you to shift your perspective and instead of focusing on follower count - focus on consistency and value.

👉 Are there any people who can aid your success? This can be team members, clients, followers, collaborations etc...

👉 What kind of content do you need to create to attract people who can help you?

One of the hardest things about being a service provider is working on my own business!

I can't tell you how many 'tomorrows' come and go and before I know it Weeks. Months. YEARS go by and I still have things untouched in my to-dos...

In this world of entrepreneurial gurus on the internet, I heard somewhere that the quicker you are able to ideate and then take action, the faster you get to where you want to go. Duh!
