Happy Friday, friends! Happy to share that the band is dropping a free live album today, available at https://paullesinski.bandcamp.com/album/plb-live. The back story for those who like a back story:
----
2020 was full of challenges, to put things mildly. Moments of light were few and far between and the things we took for granted like seeing a favorite band play, vanished overnight. The live music industry was decimated. Not only did artists suffer from the inability to play live, but the untold thousands (more?) of behind the scenes workers – truckers, sound and light engineers, bookers, promoters, caterers, roadies, tour and road managers and the list goes on and on were left with zero income and NO help from the govt assistance.
In the PNW, two individuals met these challenges with grit and creativity, putting together web-based venues for local bands to stay connected with audiences and maybe make some money. I am talking about PDX Couch Tour, created by Brian J. Straus, and Northwest Talent Spotlight, led by Bobby Palotta and Andy Madson. Mike Budd, David Kendall and I played two shows for each in late 2020 and early 2021. These four gigs were inspiring and full of fire because of the s**t storm of world events surrounding each, and dang it we were just happy to play live music for anyone. The fact that we could broadcast live, globally, meant that we could play for friends who had never seen us b/c they didn’t live in Portland. AND we got great video and audio out of it.
Which brings us to June 2021. As things start to open back up, we listened to the recordings and assembled some of the best takes into a live album – our first! Special thanks to Bobby who ran sound for NWTS and to Lizzy Tanzer who did sound at PDX Couch and Andrea Madson who organized logistics for NWTS.
These tapes are raw and unedited. I flub a vocal line and drop a bum note here and there but hey that’s live music for you. Overall we are really proud of these performances and wanted to share.
We are only making this available via Bandcamp, as a free download – but if any kind souls DO pony up money, it’s going to be sent to https://www.gimmeshelterpdx.org/, a local non profit that is helping local music workers make ends meet.
That's the back story! Enjoy the music!
