Love artist ability to work found objects into her weavings. Cupcake holders from her grandmother's pantry and denim pieces - beautiful.

Tonight is the opening reception of Unforeseen from 6-8pm! Come by and say hi!
•••
Journal series weavings on view:
“11.25.23”, 12.5” x 13”, Handwoven baking cups from my Mema’s pantry, hand-carded hand-spun wool and angelina fiber, created at Mema and Pap George’s home
“11.29.23/12.4.23”, 29” x 16.5”, Handwoven old denim jeans, needle felt, and hand-carded hand-spun wool, created at Mema and Papa George’s home
•••
21c Museum Hotel Chicago is pleased to present Unforeseen, a solo exhibition of select Journal Series weavings from Winter 2023 by Bryana Bibbs.
The journals were made one month before her grandfather (Papa George) passed on December 18, 2023. Along with her mom, Bibbs stayed at her grandparents’ home to assist her Papa George, hoping he would get better. Unable to create new materials, Bibbs journaled using found objects from her grandparents’ backyard, her Mema’s pantry, her Mema’s sewing tins, and hand-spun wool that Bibbs had previously made.
In the Journal Series weavings, Bibbs intuitively documents her personal experiences using materials, colors, and textures. She makes her yarn using the traditional textile techniques of hand-carding and hand-spinning before hand-weaving them on her frame loom, and she incorporates collected found objects.

Unforeseen will run thru August 1 - October 31, 2024.

6 years hosting Maker's Markets w Evanston Made, this event is still one of my favorites!

We design events, programs based on what our members need, meeting them where they are at in their art career/practice. This market was designed for Evanston Made members who need an accessible, affordable, low barrier, weatherproof, easy and fun market to sell at.

Hosted in a covered parking garage, rain doesn't cancel the event and only a table and chair are needed to show and sell goods. One vendor, David Hence arrives w a cart and sets up, painting while selling his art. No car is required.

The market provides many new to selling artists market research from ideas on how to show and sell their goods to learning how to engage with customers. I watched many long conversations result not only in a sale yesterday, but smiles and laughter and connection.

Get to know your neighbor.
Find out what they make.
Buy it.

And because Evanston Made loves layers and sharing, we always include a free workshop at markets and a free booth to a local nonprofit org. Thank you Holly Greenberg for hosting the bird collision project and thank you Meaghan w City of Evanston for sharing the news about Envision 2045 - don't forget my demands that Evanston Invest in Culture!

Yesterday we hosted 54 vendors and just over 500 shoppers. Thank you to all the vendors for showing up to sell what you make and thank you to all the shoppers for showing up and chatting, browsing, shopping, etc!

Don't miss the last Market of the season on Sunday, October 6! 1800 Maple Ave, 5th Floor, 12-5p. All info is listed at evanstonmade.org

Second Plein Air painting - compared to the monsoons and humidity we got last couple weeks, weather was perfect.

Inspired by these 2 aging trees that had limbs and branches giving it a lot of character. Also had 2 young ladies that gave me their blessing to use as reference. Apologies for not getting your names, but you know who you are, thank you! :)

Thanks to , , and for all their hard work organizing this and their encouragement.

Special thanks to .kaiser919 for lending me the French easel. Generous as always :)

Congrats to all the Plein Air Painters that came out this year! Fantastic work by everyone! See you guys on Sunday.

Thank you for your amazing contributions to the Plein air festival!

As the Plein Air Festival got underway with Friday evening’s festive opening, Evanston saw a number of artist-visitors in addition to its homegrown artist population.

In only three years, the festival, put on by , has attracted national attention, and that means summer outdoor painters are following.

They arrived over several days, usually by car because of the many supplies they must bring. Artists have come from Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, and as far as Texas and Florida, always hoping for good driving and good painting weather.

Track down artist Maria Delton during the Evanston Plein Air Festival!

A full day at today. Started the morning painting the charming house at lighthouse landing. I stood in the sand and sun surrounded by buzzing vegetation. It was like the Ironman of plein air. 😆 Took a lunch break and swam back and forth til@it felt like I’d gotten rid of most of the bug spray. In the afternoon, a totally different experience painting a lively urban street corner. In the sun. Tomorrow should be cooler, they say. I can withstand anything now. Onward!
