At the conclusion of the school day on Wednesday, September 18, Huntington North High School
administration notified a school resource officer of an indirect threat to school safety. The threat was a
vague and general statement overheard by the bus driver and other students on their bus ride home. This
statement was also captured by the bus surveillance system and provided to law enforcement.
An investigation was immediately initiated which included: Administration from Huntington North High
School, School Resource Officers, Huntington City Police Department, Huntington County Sheriff’s
Office, Warren Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Huntington County
Prosecutor’s Office.
Multiple juveniles were located and interviewed. As the investigation was ongoing, information was
shared on social media which prompted the potential of additional threats. These potential threats were
also investigated and determined to have generated from the initial statement overheard on the bus. At
the conclusion of the interviews a confession was obtained from a student at Huntington North High
School indicating the threat was a hoax. This case will be forwarded to the Huntington County
Prosecutor and the Huntington County Probation Department with the request of formal charges as the
individual involved is a juvenile. The juvenile suspect is presumed to be innocent unless and until
adjudicated a delinquent. No additional information regarding the juveniles involved will be provided
according to Indiana law

We now have a new sister newspaper.

Hello Carroll County,
I'm Don Hurd, president of Hoosier Media Group. I'm very happy to announce that our other company, Heartland Media Group, has purchased the Carroll County Comet. The Comet is now a part of our other hyper-local newspapers in Indiana. All our newspapers focus only on LOCAL NEWS. The "secret sauce" for our success is local names and local faces. While other newspapers have lost their focus in serving the communities they serve, our newspapers are highly engaged and a huge part of the communities we serve.
We're excited about becoming a major player in helping Carroll County continue to grow and succeed.
Being president I don't hide in an ivory tower. I'm out and about in the communities my newspapers serve. I even still deliver newspapers each week. I started delivering newspapers when I was 11 years old and I'm still doing it. IT'S FUN.
I'm very anxious to meet with the people of Carroll County to find out exactly what YOU want in your local newspaper. After all, it's YOUR newspaper.
If you want to contact me here's my email address: [email protected]
Looking forward to hearing from you.
We will begin publishing the Comet very soon. There are still some technical issues we need to work out, but soon you'll be receiving YOUR Comet filled with local news.
Thanks for the opportunity to serve Carroll County.
