In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we would like to share this video from our recent conversation about caring for your mental health and wellness at work in which Carson Finkle provides instructions for a breathing exercise that can be used when feeling overwhelmed at work. It is called the physiological sigh and was named the number one breath technique to regulate the nervous system by researchers at Stanford University.
By prioritizing your mental health with intentional resting periods throughout the work day, you can focus on your well-being and overall happiness outside of the demands of your job. Once you are ready to return to your tasks with a refreshed mind, you may even experience greater productivity and success! In fact, research has shown that taking mindful breaks at work can enhance creativity, boost problem-solving skills, and lead to innovative ideas.
Be sure to tune in to the rest of the conversation for more insights and tips on how to prioritize your well-being, even at work. As always, please feel free to let us know what you think about taking mindful breaks at work and if you would be willing to test how breathwork could help you!

During last week's HR Exchange Talks event, we asked the audience if they would feel comfortable talking about mental health and wellness at work. Surprisingly, 45% of attendees responded "yes".
After seeing the results of the poll, panelist Jay Unwin chimed in with a great point. Unwin said:
"My concern is probably more whether the managers will listen and listen well than whether people will open up to them. I think that there's a lot of focus on encouraging people to speak about their mental health and speak about their well-being. And I think that there should be more focus on teaching people how to listen effectively, because that creates the environment where people can actually be heard.”
Be sure to tune in to the rest of the conversation which is available to watch on-demand, and let us know what you think in the comments below! We truly appreciate your insights and feedback.
