YOUTH FOCUS

Catholic schools around the Archdiocese of Louisville participated in a variety of celebrations for All Saints Day.

Students, faculty, parents and alumni of Saint Xavier High School and Trinity High School took part in Project Warm’s annual “blitz” Nov. 1.

Champions were decided in multiple sports in the Catholic Schools Athletic Association this fall.

Students submitted entries illustrating words from the prayer “Canticle of Creatures” by St. Francis of Assisi.

Federal funding cuts and food insecurity were key topics of discussion at Catholic Charities of Louisville’s “Coffee and Conversations with Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre and Lisa DeJaco Crutcher, CEO” on Oct. 29.

Welcoming about two dozen attendees to Catholic Charities, Archbishop Fabre said Catholic Charities is “the face of Jesus Christ” and of the Catholic Church to those in need.

What does seminary formation look like?

The Record joined Archdiocese of Louisville seminarian Nicolas (Nico) Caicedo for a day at St. Meinrad Seminary and University. See his typical Monday!

The archdiocese has eight seminarians in formation at St. Meinrad.

Seminarians for the archdiocese are also in formation at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, Mich., St. John Paul II Seminary in Washington, D.C., Theological College in Washington, D.C., and Mount St. Mary’s of the West Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Each seminarian’s schedule may vary based on personal preference and stage in seminary.

Saying he was deeply saddened, Archbishop Shelton Fabre prayed for comfort, peace and healing after the deadly crash of a UPS cargo plane at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport Nov. 4.

UPS flight 2976 to Honolulu caught fire and crashed just beyond the runway on departure at about 5:14 p.m. Nov. 4.

Parishes, pastors and religious communities around the area have joined their voices with the archbishop’s, offering prayers and asking the community to pray for the people affected.
