Tropical Update: We now are tracking newly named Tropical Storm Helene. It's strengthening over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and is explicitly forecast to quickly intensify into a category one hurricane by tomorrow morning as it makes a very close approach to Cancún, Mexico. Further rapid intensification is forecast, and Helene is expected to be a category 3 major hurricane as it makes landfall along the northern Gulf Coast in Florida Thursday evening. After landfall, Helene will interact with an upper level low nearby and begin curving back to the northwest as it turns post-tropical. Its remnants, along with the upper level low, may deal the Tri-States some beneficial rain heading into the weekend. wgem.com/weather -Meteorologist Kyle Eck

Tropical Update: Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is showing signs of development in the northwestern Caribbean Sea. For now, convection is displaced to the east of the broad center of circulation, so the storm is not very organized. Once the storm develops an inner core, significant strengthening is forecast, and it may rapidly intensify into a major hurricane by Thursday evening on approach to the Florida Gulf Coast.
