12:21 AM…Maynardville Fire Department was paged to respond to an address in the city but dispatch was too garbled to understand. No one from MVFD responded to the call.

12:30 AM…No one from MVFD answered the call and no other fire department was paged.

12:34 AM…MVFD attempted to contact dispatch but no answer.

12:38 AM…MVFD is given the address of 115 Prospect Road off of Main Street for a car crash.

Maynardville Police Department Begins K9 Program



Maynardville Police Department has implemented a new K9 program in the fight against crime.



Say hello to Charlie…a six-month old AKC certified German Shepard. Charlie has begun the bonding process with his handler, Sgt. Lawrence Foust. He was donated to MPD by Candy Booker in memory of Knox County Deputy Tucker Blakely, who was killed in the line of duty in October 2023.



According to Chief Roger Richardson, MPD requested to start a K9 program several years ago but the request was denied by Maynardville City Council who feared a police dog “might bite somebody.”



The next step for Foust and Charlie is training. A canine can be trained in several different classifications, but Richardson stated that searching for narcotics is the focus at this point followed by tracking.



“I am very supportive of our K9 program,” said Richardson. “This allows our department an added measure of protection for the community.”

Two Women Charged with Selling Fentanyl in Union County

Two women are facing charges for selling potent and dangerous illegal drugs.

Georgena Warwick age 47 and Ashley Hamirani age 34 were indicted by a Union County Grand Jury on September 6, 2024. They have been charged with distributing Flurofentanyl, Fentanyl and He**in.

Flurofentanyl and Fentanyl are synthetic opiates that result in relaxation, pain relief, drowsiness, confusion, and dizziness when ingested, just to name a few. Overdoses can put an individual into stupor or a coma and because it depresses the respiratory system, can easily cause death. Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine and 50 times stronger than he**in.

According to the report, this incident occurred on December 13, 2023, when the two women sold Flurofentanyl, a Schedule I controlled substance, Fentanyl, also a Schedule I controlled substance, and He**in, a Schedule II controlled substance, in Union County.

The two were arrested on September 10th without incident. Warwick was arrested at 502 Jim Town Road in Luttrell and Hamirani at 225 Harless Road in Luttrell. They are currently incarcerated at Union County Jail, and each have been set at $50,000 bond.

Friday September 20th is Homecoming for UNION COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. The parade will begin at 5:30 PM and follow the usual route…north on Maynardville Highway, turning onto Berthas Place beside Maynardville Elementary School and returning to the high school on Main Street.

Earlier today, at Union County High School, a female student and her brother were arrested by school resource officers. The girl was upset this morning and one SRO tried to calm her down when she became belligerent. She refused to listen to reasoning. She became unruly, using foul language and fought with the officer. Her brother saw the struggle and he too joined in on the assault of the officer and administrators who were also trying to help de-esculate the situation.

This situation was handled in house and no students were in any danger thus, parents of high school students were not notified by the school system.

The juveniles will now face legal prosecution.

The family of the victim of a dog attack is asking for help from the community. Lincoln is a student at Luttrell Elementary School who was attacked by a pit bull mixed breed dog on August 21, 2024, in Plainview. According to family members, the child is facing 3 additional surgeries.

6:22 PM… A wreck has been reported on Highway 370. The car has reportedly run into a house and the car is possibly on fire. Emergency personnel are responding.

6:26 PM…Law enforcement at the scene says no fire visible at this time.

6:34 PM…A firefighter at the scene states two vehicles have crashed into the house near 193 Highway 370 but there is no fire.

4:49 PM…A wreck has been reported on Old Highway 61 E near JimTown Road. One vehicle is on fire and injuries have been reported. Emergency personnel are responding.

4:58 PM…First report states everyone is out of the vehicles.

4:59 PM…The report is now stating that both vehicles are on fire but only one person has been removed at this point. One car supposedly has propane tanks inside. Luttrell Fire Department is on scene now.

5:12 PM…Lifestar is being launched and will sit down near the scene in about 15 minutes.

5:14 PM…A pregnant female is still trapped inside one vehicle.

5:21 PM…One male is also still pinned in the wreckage.

5:25 PM…Lifestar is 4 minutes out.

5:31 PM…Lifestar I has landed safely in a field near the scene of the accident.

5:55 PM…Lifestar I has lifted off.
