The queen of radio and former talk show host, Wendy Williams, 60 candidly spoke about her conservatorship in an exclusive interview with the Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM. Her niece, Alex Finnie, attended the exclusive phone interview led by radio hosts Charlemagne Tha God, DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, and Loren LaRosa. “For the last three years I have been caught up in this system,” said Wendy Williams. Finnie shared that Williams can only call her family, but her family cannot call her.

The Jim Crow and segregation era is a period where the truth is murky and overlooked for the ‘betterment of society.’ In comparison, American history acknowledges the efforts and achievements of figures like MLK, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, and Maya Angelou. Other moments in history did not have a happy ending or a justifiable means to an end. Events like the Tulsa Massacre, Plowing of Seneca Village, Lake Lanier, and Sugar Hill uncover a dark and disgusting part of that era. With the release of Nickel Boys, another unveiling of dark history has seen the light.

They’re “girlz in the hood.” Two young women trying to make it from “Friday” to “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next.” And as they do, they take viewers on a journey through working-class Los Angeles that feels like it was ripped from the past and updated with a modern feminist twist.

The film’s comedy roots are showing. It’s employing an old tradition of two friends trying to get through life in a paycheck-to-paycheck part of town. This time in Baldwin Hills. Producer Issa Rae (“Insecure”), screenwriter Syreeta Singleton (“Insecure”), and music video director-turned-filmmaker Lawrence Lamont don’t venture far off the block.

The L.A. area’s 12 professional sports organizations, in conjunction with Fanatics and the Fanatics Foundation, will distribute $3 million worth of merchandise on Friday to area residents who were forced out of their homes due to the area wildfires.

The distribution events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, SoFi Stadium and BMO Stadium. Impacted residents with proof of residency in evacuated ZIP codes will be eligible to attend. Those who attend will also be able to collect personal hygiene kits, school supplies, sneakers and more items.

State law enforcement officials have opened multiple predatory pricing investigations into fraud, assorted price-gouging scams and unsolicited low-ball offers on property during the current state of emergency in Los Angeles County, it was announced today.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta said law enforcement has been working to tackle “this unlawful and unscrupulous conduct” since the emergency was declared on Jan. 7. Bonta also announced the creation of the Disaster Relief Task Force and the launch of a website dedicated to its response: OAG.ca.gov/LAFires.

More Santa Ana winds blew into Southern California this past week, again raising wildfire danger even as crews continued their efforts today to fully contain a pair of massive blazes that erupted amid erratic winds earlier this month, killing more than two dozen people and destroying more than 15,000 structures. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued an executive order Tuesday to expedite fire debris removal and install reinforcement barriers and sandbags with rain in the forecast for burn areas.
Forecasters took the rare step of issuing a “particularly dangerous situation warning” for a large portion of Los Angeles and Ventura counties Sunday afternoon due to damaging Santa Ana winds and very low humidity. That warning will be in effect until 10 a.m.

Los Angeles County and the greater Los Angeles area are on high alert due to the influx of wildfires and lack of rain this season. The Eaton Canyon and Palisades fires are still active after wreaking havoc on Angelenos since Jan. 7, merely seven days into the new year.
LA County’s Department of Public Health issued a Windblown Dust and Ash Advisory this past Tuesday, despite various air quality reports—for people who are not in a fire zone—labeling the air quality as “good.” The advisory will run until Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 7 pm.
