Palimpsest

Palimpsest Palimpsest is a (mostly) single-voiced audio drama about memory, identity, & the things that haunt us

“Palimpsest is audio fiction’s best foray into the Gothic.”
--Wil Williams, Wil Williams Reviews

“Palimpsest is perfect for those who like their horror with a little Shirley Jackson vibe.”
--Tor.com

“Palimpsest is a masterclass in atmosphere. I absolutely cried.”
--Elena Fernández-Collins, AudioDramatic

“Palimpsest [...] manages to create a slow burn of dread and sorrow over its episodes. Th

is is largely due to the tightly wrought storyline and Hayley Heninger's magnificent performance. A wonderful take on the classic ghost story genre."
--Paul Bae, The Black Tapes, The Big Loop

“A spooky and melancholic and ultimately devastating tale, beautifully written.”
--Jacquelyn Landgraf, It Makes a Sound

“The story is poetic and searching, instantly friendly, quickly creepy, and totally addictive.”
--Asheville’s Mountain Xpress

As usual, we did not get a lot of photos of the actual show, but we had a great time bringing Cooling with Cora and Respite to USC Sumter this week. Here are some pics of the trip—including the Dennys international headquarters in Spartanburg (a party, def), Skelly wearing Hayley’s discarded moisturizing mask, and shots of sound check and the green room. The last three shots are from Mr. Bunky’s General Store and Meat Market, which is an actual place we went to. Much to haunt the unwary shopper there…

We had an incredible night performing alongside Andrew K Clark and Jennifer Trudrung as part of our first annual Gothic Cabaret. We performed “Repsite” for a full house at the intimate and beautiful Story Parlor in West Asheville. Thank you to everyone who came out, listened, drank, and stayed after to talk with us. Can’t wait to do it again!

Rehearsal for Saturday night’s show (ticket link in bio). Bittersweet as it was our last time using the studio before Jamie moves in March. We’ll miss this beautiful space where we made the Visitation episodes and all of season five.

Can’t wait to show you the new studio once we’re settled in tho!

Some highlights from 2024. We finished season five, hit a million downloads, joined the network, and began planning for our new show. Looking forward to making that show and bringing some Palimpsest live shows to new places in 2025! Thank you for continuing to listen and for embracing what haunts you. We love you. 🖤🖤🖤

“Respite: A Hawthorne House Tale” is out now!

We wrote Respite for our live shows in October, but the hurricane postponed everything. So here’s a fully produced version, just for you. And it is about you. And you’ve been very naughty indeed.

A dreamlike visit to the Hawthorne House, heavily inspired by the mid-century weird stories of Robert Aickmann. A holiday treat for you. It may be Solstice season, but this episode is stuffed with Easter Eggs.

Happy holidays from Palimpsest Productions!

Happy birthday to us! And Happy Halloween!🎃

Today is the seventh anniversary of our debut! We are so proud and grateful for these seven years, for everyone who listens, for all the love notes and fan art and speculations. We are safe in the aftermath of the hurricane—here’s a photo for proof from our birthday lunch today.

Hurricane Helene has, among the rest of the devastation and loss, delayed everything Palimpsest Productions had in the pipeline. But we are still here, and once we get our feet under us again we plan to plunge forward. Highgate Wood is still happening, and other unannounced projects are still in the table. Our live shows that got canceled in the wake of the storm are being rescheduled for the spring. As soon as we have those dates we’ll share them here. And look for more announcements after the first of the year.

We love you. We’re still here. Embrace what haunts you. 🖤

Hello all— some listeners may know that Palimpsest is produced in Black Mointain, NC, and if you are following the news you know what’s happening in Black Mountain (where Jamie lives), Swannanoa (where Hayley lives), Asheville and the surrounding areas. We’re posting to let you know that we are safe. Hayley has evacuated to family in Charlotte and her house is intact. Jamie has evacuated to family in SC and his house (pictured here, and including the Palimpsest studio) is intact as well. We were very lucky, but our neighbors and the community is devastated. Our hearts are breaking for the loss and destruction of our beloved community. We have no idea what this will do to our production schedule, as that is low on our priority list at the moment, but at the very least our new show Highgate Wood is indefinitely delayed. We will have an announcement soon about something that was already in the works before the storm, but otherwise bear with us for the foreseeable future.

If you want to help, a donation to is a good way to go. Boots on the ground local organizations are in general better bets than places like the Red Cross, which are well-funded and slower to help inaccessible areas. Jamie’s personal account ( ) will be sharing updates and opportunities for assistance as much as possible. We love you, and are grateful as always for your love and support.

Our Story

Palimpsest is a bi-weekly audio drama about memory, identity, and the things that haunt us.

Season One tells the story of Anneliese, who is still mourning the death, years earlier, of her sister Claire. The story is presented as Anneliese’s audio notes to her former therapist, working through her feelings about her sister. The recordings also begin to document the apparent hauntings in her new apartment, and Anneliese's possibly flawed memories of Claire. You can binge Season One now on your favorite podcatcher.

Season Two tells a different story, set in another place and time. Episode One drops Tuesday, September 4th, 2018. Palimpsest is written by Jamieson Ridenhour and performed by Hayley Heninger, with original music by Ian Ridenhour. Our logo was created by Megan Lee. Our project is fueled by our friends and Patrons.
