Delta Magazine Celebrating the “South’s South”-bringing you the food, music, art and lifestyles of the MS Delta B.

Often referred to as “the most Southern place on earth” and “the South’s South,” the Mississippi Delta is a unique region of the American South—the Deep South. As a mecca of Southern culture and history, “the Delta,” as it is both geographically and affectionately known, is the land of cotton and the home of the blues—a mystique place that inspired the likes of Tennessee Williams, B. King, William

Faulkner, and countless other writers and artists still today. With a fresh and cutting-edge approach, Delta Magazine, based in the region, captures the essence of the alluvial landscape and the modern Delta-Southern lifestyle in full color. But no matter where you live or where you’re from, Delta Magazine is a must-read for the Deep Southerner at heart. Today we give honor to our veterans… The brave men and women of our armed forces who have served and protected this nation. During WWII, Mr. William French of Indianola, honored active-duty servicemen and women stationed all around the world, by sending them the Indianola town newsletter, “The Spoke and Page” to keep them up-to-date and send an encouraging word from back home.
By the end of the war, Mr. French had sent out 748,800 copies of the newsletter, and hundreds of letters, postcards, and Christmas cards made their way back to Mr. French in return.

Halloween is such a fun time for families and friends to carve pumpkins, dress up in spooky or silly costumes, and to trick or treat through neighborhoods. And in the kitchen, homemade treats are a big part of the celebration as well.

To make these Ghost Cookies, simply dip Nutter Butter cookies in melted white chocolate or candy coating. Use mini chocolate chips for the eyes, placing on the cookie before the chocolate hardens. Set on waxed paper until firm and enjoy!

Fried cabbage and smoked sausage is a favorite fall meal to pull together! This easy skillet recipe can be ready in less than thirty minutes, and with so few ingredients it’s perfect for busy school nights. Serve with warm cornbread!
Skillet-fried Cabbage & Sausage

4 tablespoons butter divided
½ large onion diced
2 cloves garlic minced
14 ounces smoked sausage
1 large head green cabbage cored, coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional

Cook sausages in a skillet prepped with cooking spray over medium-high heat until hot all the way through, turning as needed to brown on all sides. Remove sausages from skillet, keeping warm. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in the same skillet; add the onion; sauté until translucent about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook another minute.

Add remaining butter, cabbage, red pepper flakes (if desired), salt, and pepper. Toss to coat the cabbage with butter and seasonings. Sauté until cabbage is wilted and slightly browned, about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat, top with warm sausages, and serve directly from the skillet.

Our Story

Our mission is to bring our readers the uniqueness of the Mississippi Delta and to celebrate the lifestyle enjoyed here. With each issue we explore the music, art, history, and food of the Delta, giving credence to the notion that this truly is “the South’s South.” We strive to present the best of what our region is about from turnrows and hunting clubs, to debutante balls and dinner parties. Not bound by land and levees, we believe those who treasure the culture of the Delta will carry our way of life with them wherever they may roam.
