In the 1970s, before they became TV/movie icons, Joe Pesci and Frank Vincent (both New Jersey natives) played in a band called “Frank Vincent and the Aristocrats”. Vincent played drums, trumpet, and piano. They really played well off of each other and changed to more of a comedy act. It was described as a mix of Abbott and Costello and Don Rickles.

Seaside Heights, NJ- Woman putting up black out curtains at Casino Pier, during WW2. Most of the shore towns had to use blackout curtains in their homes. The entire area was blacked out at night for the duration of the war. German U-Boats would patrol the area.

Vineland, NJ- In the 1890s, Before coming to Vineland, the Milo (Myers) family toured with Buffalo Bill and with Barnum Circus. Mary Ann was known as Madam Milo: Queen of Hair, with her hair measuring over 6ft long. Her twin boys performed in acrobatic shows, where they would hang by their hair, which they didn’t cut until their teen years. Their father, William, was also an acrobat and performed.

Ramsey, NJ - In 1977, four local families - the Muti’s, the Conti’s, the Baruffaldi’s, and the Giuliani’s agreed to rename their street “Guinea Gultch”. The block was an extension of Cleveland Street - but that name didn’t seem appropriate, so they gave it another.
“It’s not a put-down on Italians,” says Vincent Muti, a borough policeman. “We’re all proud to be Italians.”, “And we all have a sense of humor,” adds Maryke Baruffaldi.

Long Branch, NJ- The boardwalk fire of 1987. Going back over 160 years Long Branch had a pier on the Atlantic coast five in total since 1828. All are ancient history now. It burned due to a gas leak and electrical fire.
