Beef Straight to St. Louis from the Price Family Farm
David Price of The Price Family Farm was making a beef delivery the day I spent some time at Bolyard's Meat & Provisions for the podcast. Had a chance to sit down and talk aiwht him about what goes into producing beef for the awesome burgers, french dips, and tallow fries I love at Bolyards!
Here more of the story by finding Grounded by the Farm on your favorite podcast app or check out our website https://groundedbythefarm.com/farm-to-counter/
Why commit to #wholeanimalbutchery? It’s harder and takes more time so why would someone do the hard work?
That was part of the conversation with Chris at @bolyardsmeat for the latest episode of the Grounded by the Farm podcast.
Check it out wherever you listen to podcasts!

Seeing Whole Animal Butchery at Bolyard's
The art of whole animal butchery has become less common, but it's an everyday affair at Bolyard's Meat & Provisions. The staff gets to know all of the farmers they source from and feel a real responsibility to make use of the full animal as they push for greater sustainability.
I had the chance to go into the cut room and mic up Bob Kometsky who talked me through the work he was doing. In the podcast audio, I visit with owner Chris Bolyard about the vision of the place.

Putting the finishing touches on all the pieces of tomorrow morning’s @groundedbythefarm_ podcast episode… and remembered the reel I shot on my most recent trip to @bolyardsmeat.
Transparency takes a leap here and the commitment to sustainable and responsible is met with incredible flavors. My first time to have the Cubano here, will do that again for sure!
Listen to the podcast in the morning and you will likely want to go to Maplewood for lunch.

How does cheddar cheese get such great taste? Aging at a constant temp for a year is what rocks @hemme_brothers_creamery Brothers Keeper!

When you milk cows in one part of the building and make cheese in another, you can bet those fresh cheeses are REALLY fresh. And with an aging room storing aged cheddar for a year, the flavors there get deep too!
Take a tour with us as David Hemme of Hemme Brothers Creamery and then catch the podcast episode to soak up more.
Love learning our history and the connections it has to food & farming! That’s on the latest episode of @groundedbythefarm_

A Jeep Tour of Rice Fields
It's been a little while since I went out on a rice farm but I'm amazed how much I remembered! So much to see when it comes to managing water & weeds, while providing habitat for wildlife that love all that water!
Thanks to Blake with for showing me around recently.
Our tour focuses on the farming side of things but the podcast that will go up tomorrow morning first thing speaks to the entire operation.
And it's unique as Blake is growing and selling high protein, low glycemic rice. That means some folks who have been told to eliminate rice as they watch their blood sugar may be able to add a bit back to their plates. And endurance racers may find another way to power their days!

Have you heard about wagyu beef? I'll confess I had heard about it on the plate but hadn't pictured the cattle or an operation where its produced.... that is until now!
On my way to Nashville for a concert, I visited Jeff Swanson at SouthwindS Cattle Company! Here's a bit of the tour... we talk a lot about the beef and more in the episode that was issued today -- check it out in the app or on the website.
Thanks to friends at Tennessee Brew Works and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture's Pick Tennessee website for helping us connect with Jeff.
Growing up my grandmom had pecan & walnut trees in the back yard. We spent so much time finding, cleaning and storing pecans for the coming year. We always knew the day was special when we'd be asked to get some out of the freezer... had to wonder what came next.
Anyone planning to celebrate today with pecan pie?
Learning about the history of irrigation & food production from the team at the @gilariver Indian Community is a high point for @groundedbythefarm_. Hear more in the episode out now. #water #irrigation #americanhistory #nativeamericans #azagriculture #azfoodie

Lucky to have spent time on the @gilariver with Wesley Miles learning about the history of water & food in the area. People were advancing all that as early as thousands of years ago! Hear a lot more on the latest episode of the podcast.
Did you know that thousands of years ago irrigation canals were created and that they serve as the blueprint for some of the irrigation canals in Arizona today? That and more from the Gila River Indian Community is on the podcast this week as we talk to archaeologists Kyle Woodson and Wesley Miles.
As a preview for the episode dropping tomorrow, we are sharing some of the tour Wes gave us around the community where the Akimel O’odham (Pima) people & their ancestors have been developing farming practices since prehistoric times.
