If you’ve been producing your own songs from home, but they still sound like rough demos…

Here are 5 STEPS to get unstuck👇

1.) Find a quality music community.
- Surround yourself with motivated artists and producers who are passionately pursuing their goals.
- Collaborate with as many artists as possible to hone your skills.

2.) Start strong by having a clear process and vision.
- Start producing in a DAW template so your song already has the VSTs, routing and effects that suit your sound.
- Import a pro reference track, ensuring you have a clear vision for your mix.

3.) Streamline your production process.
- Outsource time-consuming tasks or weaknesses (tuning vocals, recording guitar, etc).
- Utilize MIDI instruments and a DAW template to arrange songs quickly.

4.) Remember audio quality starts at the source.
- I started with a $100 Scarlett interface like most bedroom producers.
- No mixing tricks could save my vocals, so I upgraded to a decent pre-amp and my quality instantly improved

5.) Receive 1-on-1 feedback from industry professionals.
- Direct feedback brings accelerated growth.
- Seek out seasoned mentors who will break down their process & help you with yours.

Independent Artists: If you’ve been producing your own songs for a while, but they still sound like GarageBand demos…

Try these 5 TIPS to get unstuck 👇

1.) Quality starts at the source.
- I started with a $100 interface like most beginners.
- But as I grew in mixing, my vocals still sounded dull compared to radio releases…
- I upgraded to a decent pre-amp and my vocal color & tone intantly improved.

2.) Learn proper vocal mixing using multiband compression and EQ.
- Harsh vocals will instantly make your mix sound amateur.
- Use only 2 EQ bands and compress at around 300Hz and 3KHz.
- This will dynamically reduce the muddy and harsh frequencies.

3.) Use saturation to add subtle warmth and grit to your tracks.
- The Waves Magma BB Tubes or Soundtoys Decapitator plugins are perfect for this.
- Usually, vocal grit (distortion) should be more felt than heard.
- Try saturation on punchy instruments like snare and synth as well.

4.) Start strong by having a clear process and vision.
- Start producing with a reference track in mind, ensuring you have a clear vision for your song.
- Use a mixing template so when you start a new song, it already has the VSTs, routing and effects that suit your sound.

5.) Receive regular feedback from industry professionals.
- Direct feedback will help get you unstuck faster than anything else.
- Seasoned mix engineers and producers will call your skills higher and help you identify knowledge gaps.

3 tips I wish I knew when I first started mixing my own lead vocals...

1.) Quality starts at the source.
- I started with a $100 interface like most beginner producers.
- As I grew in mixing, my vocals still sounded dull compared to radio releases...
- I upgraded to a decent pre-amp and my vocal color & tone intantly improved.

2.) Add Multiband Compression to make your lead vocal sit in the mix.
- When I made this addition to my vocal chain, it was a game-changer!
- Use only 2 EQ bands and compress at around 300Hz and 3KHz.
- This will dynamically reduce the muddy and harsh frequencies.

3.) Use saturation to add subtle warmth and grit.
- The Waves Magma BB Tubes or Soundtoys Decapitator plugins are perfect for this.
- Most of the time and depending on genre, grit (distortion) on your vocals should be more felt than heard in the mix.
