Aberdeen-You Kept My Heart (the Sarah & Sunday singles) 12” vinyl

Founded in 1994, LA’s Aberdeen were an underground twee-pop group who’s tight discography of beautifully melodic, melancholic and dreamy songs envelope the cliche topics of summer sunshine, young love, and the lack thereof. Since 2006 the band has been helmed solely by lead writer & producer John Girgus.

Their music primarily resided on the Bristolian cult label Sarah Records, where they released some of their most beloved tracks such as ‘Byron’ and ‘Fireworks’ in the mid 90s.

Their stripped-back sound and love of melody has subconsciously woven itself into the current generation of underground pop and indie music.

We are super excited to announce the re-pressing of the band’s first three EPs in their entirety, with additional bonus tracks, on vinyl for the first time in 30 years. These are very special songs by a band whose permeance on vinyl was integral to the flexi disc generation of the Sarah Records movement.

Early last year I was approached by two different people about two different Aberdeen vinyl reissues. There's been some interest over the years, but never really materialized.

One was Will, a young, talented designer from the UK who runs record label and book publisher, Toothgrinder Press. He reminded me this year was the 30th anniversary of "Byron", our first single for Sarah. He'd been hearing "Snapdragon" on a radio show and wanted to reissue a collection on vinyl for it.

Of course, usually when I get to the part of an offer for this project, I begin to tell them a little bit of the band history and that's the last of it. Will was brave though, he chose to try to work it out, eventually securing blessings from all involved.

A few years ago (maybe for the 25th), I had that DAT of "Byron" mixes remastered, and many tracks previously remastered by Uly for "What Do I Wish For Now (2017)", the final missing piece being a remaster of "Fireworks" from the original tape, another DAT that hadn't been played since 1995.

Will developed great artwork, packaging ideas, continuing to form a release plan to make this year. However at some point, due to some personal issues, I had to delay my involvement, and the project nearly didn't happen.

But Will persisted and through his enthusiasm and focus, made it make sense again. So I got back to Uly's, we did a once (or 5x) over the entire master, with Will spending the following weeks finalizing the beautiful product and package we'll be rolling out over the coming weeks.

Without further delay, I'm pleased to announce: remastered for vinyl from the original master tapes at The Laundry Room Recording Studio, available from Toothgrinder Press on 12” powder pink vinyl featuring a glow in the dark star, the entirety of the bands first 3 EPs +2 bonus tracks, You Kept My Heart (The Sarah & Sunday Singles), Byron 30th anniversary issue, available for pre-order now.
