In 2013, as a reporter at WTIC TV (FOX 61 News), I broke the story of Justina Pelletier, a Connecticut teenager who found herself trapped in a Boston hospital.
After breaking the story on Nov. 18, 2013, I went on to cover it for the next seven months, filing over 30 separate reports and traveling back and forth to Massachusetts from Connecticut multiple times.
Not only was I "covering it" — but I continued to break news related to the case — helping to unravel a complex and nuanced thread of circumstances.
The bizarre and intricate story went on to be covered by People Magazine, ABC News, FOX News, The Wall Street Journal, and Justina's family even appeared on the Dr. Phil Show.
It was by far the wildest story I ever covered and certainly the biggest story I ever broke.
Ultimately I earned multiple Emmy Nominations, multiple Society of Professional Journalist awards, and two Edward R. Murrow awards for my coverage of the case.
I had help from some great news photographers and editors such as Dan Putnam, Matt Gosciminski, Ryan Bernat, and many, many more.
On December 13th, a documentary mini-series on the story premiered on Peacock (NBC's streaming service app).
I am featured as one of the people interviewed in the documentary series about the case.
The trailer is on YouTube:

Ultimately, the most important thing is Justina's physical and mental wellbeing. I sincerely hope that she is OK and can thrive as a young adult.
