Dennis Zhang started Kung Fu Noodle in 2019 outside of Dayton and opened a second location in Columbus in the spring of 2024. He was inspired to start the restaurant to capture a taste of Lanzhou, the city in China he calls home. Zhang had been saving ingredients imported from the region so he could cook favorite dishes himself. “I couldn’t really find very authentic Chinese places to invite my friends to,” he says. “So instead I invited my friends over and I cooked them authentic dishes with my wife and served them. Everybody loved it.”

Don DePerro, who died unexpectedly Jan. 11, helped rebuild the business advocacy organization and forged new partnerships in the Central Ohio community.

As a teenager in his hometown of Buffalo, New York, DePerro acquired an unusual nickname. “I would shake hands with everybody, and they started calling me ‘Chamber of Commerce,’” says DePerro, a longtime business journalist and publisher who was recruited in 2016 to lead the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Community leaders who know and have worked with him say his impact reaches beyond the chamber into the region as a whole.
