First Time Going To Buttonwillow With Big Bro!
I naively thought that I can go Buttonwillow for the first time and get under sub2 because I practiced on Assetto Corsa with @beavismotorsport ‘s NB Miata and got 1:46 (it has beefy tires, aero and turbo). I was like hey if I can do 1:46 and my car can’t be that much slower than that right? Give it 10 secs i might still be able to do so? Turns out I was wrong🙂
This isn’t very fast considering spec Miata guys get the same lap times NA but not bad for my first time and Big Bro’s first track day in like two years that after a fresh engine rebuild! Also the car was tuned to 12psi the night before but that day I couldn’t get over 7 no matter what changes I did to the boost controller, I wasn’t experienced enough to realize that I have a massive boost leak and fix it at the spot. And a 7psi peak boost with leak is a lot slower than a wastegate pressure 7psi. …
I think my lines were good, can probably shave a second or two with driving. But to get under 2 minutes I think I’m going to need that 12psi boost with NO LEAK and some 225 tires!
Special thanks to @fwlr.tuning for making the knock gauge (the gauge with red knob). It is a really good product especially for me as I never went on a dyno tune😳. On 91 gas, the “safe” base maps online weren’t really safe, I had to take out quite some degrees of timing to stop hearing knocks at full boost with the earphone. It really gave me a lot more confidence tuning my own car and be on the track🫡 (not affiliated btw just genuinely supporting😇)
Thanks for reading and watching a two min video you’re a rare breed🤓
