Morning, USVI! Hurricane Hunters are currently flying within Tropical Storm Tammy finding increased winds-- max sustained winds now 60 mph. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the central and northern windward islands -- Tropical Storm Warnings and possible Hurricane Watches to be issued for some of these islands today.
We will be monitoring forecast models throughout the day to determine any shifts in the cone of uncertainty towards the west - which would likely cause watches/warnings to be posted for the USVI. #usviwx #usvirginislands #StormPreparedness

USVI, "localized" flash flooding is expected across portions of the region this evening and overnight due to heavy rainfall -- along with gusty winds lingering through Wednesday. Flash floods can cause landslides and life threatening situations on roadways and other areas. Take necessary precautions -- A special marine warning is currently in effect through the Mona Passage. Stay tuned to local authorities for weather updates! #tropicalstormphilippe #usvirginislands #wxusvi
#tropicalstormphilippe has been inching its way westward toward the USVI as a weak tropical storm -- but not expected to strengthen during its tenure within the region. Most of the TS winds (~ 50 mph) will remain east of the USVI. Currently, NO tropical storm advisories are in effect for the USVI, but can expect strong gusty winds and welcome rains 🌧️ including possible threats of flash flooding in localized areas today through early Wednesday. Monitor local weather authorities for changing conditions. Marine interests should take necessary precautions. If possible, stay off the roads -- and definitely no dips today 💨 ☔️🌊 #usviwx #usvirginislands
#tropicalstormfranklin is located well to the north of the USVI expected to track further northward away from the region. NOTE, system COULD produce some localized heavy rainfall in parts of the #USVI from developing feeder bands stretching southward. Stay tuned to local weather authorities for updates! #usviwx #usvirginislands
Good Afternoon, VI! SPECIAL ALERT! A large plume of moisture is spreading northward from SW to NE from the Tropical Caribbean! FLASH FLOODING likely for many areas!
FROM VITEMA 10/25/22:
A FLOOD WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM AST THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...
* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
* WHERE...Portions of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, including the following areas, in Puerto Rico, Central Interior, Culebra, Eastern Interior, Mayaguez, and Vicinity, North Central, Northeast, Northwest, Ponce and Vicinity, San Juan and Vicinity, Southeast, Southwest, Vieques, and Western Interior. In the Virgin Islands, St Croix and St.Thomas...St. John...and Adjacent Islands.
* WHEN...From 2 PM AST this afternoon through Thursday evening.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Extensive street
flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Area
creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more
heavy rain.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- The interaction between an upper-level trough and a tropical
wave could lead to excessive heavy rainfall this afternoon
through Thursday. The highest rainfall amounts may fall over
the eastern third of Puerto Rico, Culebra, Vieques, and the
U.S. Virgin Islands.
Maximum rainfall accumulations may range between 3 and 6
inches, with locally higher amounts up to 10 inches.
Heads Up! Tropical Storm winds and heavy rains are approaching St. Croix shorty from the east -- and will spiral westward and eventually northward toward St. Thomas/St. John. Please stay off the roads to allow for WAPA and/or emergency vehicles total access! Stay safe USVI! #Fiona #usvi
11 AM Tropical Update! "Tropical Storm Warnings" remain in effect for the territory -- PLUS a newly issued "Hurricane Watch" for the USVI indicating hurricane conditions could occur as Fiona continues to intensify. The MAJOR update to report is the storm's forward motion has slowed to just 8 mph -- thinking a turn to the west-northwest is possible. This is definitely a healthier storm on satellite today! ***Take precautions for hurricane force winds 74+ mph, especially in higher elevations and locations exposed to southern shores. The highest winds/gusts later today/tonight will come from the south/southeast once the storm passes the USVI longitude.*** #Fiona #usvirginislands
9AM Video Tropical Update from USVI! Tropical Storm Fiona continues to develop and strengthen this morning -- and could reach hurricane status upon approach to Puerto Rico, hence the Hurricane Watch that has been issued for PR. Current maximum sustained winds with Fiona are currently 60 mph with some higher gusts. The worst of the weather for the USVI is still to come this afternoon through tonight as Fiona passes to the southwest of the territory. Please remain indoors and do not drive (unless you have to) ---- and secure exterior lightweight objects that could be tossed around! Remember, stay tuned to your local authorities for official updates and for any changes to the forecast. #usvirginislands #Fiona #staysafe
Friday 5PM Video Update from USVI Weather Guy!
Tropical Storm (TS) Warnings have just been issued for the USVI and Puerto Rico, with center of Fiona likely tracking south of St. Croix. Note that TS conditions extend some 100+ miles out from center. TS conditions to begin first on STX and STT around midday on Saturday and then Saturday night for Puerto Rico. Current maximum sustained winds are 50mph with higher gusts. CLOSELY monitoring possible weakening wind shear around the storm that COULD allow for additional strengthening of TS Fiona upon approach to the USVI! The primary threat continues to be heavy rain (4-6 inches forecast) with the great potential of flash floods/mudslides. PREPARE TODAY and PLAN to stay home this weekend (if possible) until after the storm has passed and the all clear has been issued by your local authorities! Stay Safe! #Fiona #usvirginislands #hurricaneseason2022
Good Morning, VI'ers! We now have Tropical Storm Fiona located at 16.6°N 53.0°W moving westward at 13 mph. Max sustained winds are 50 mph. Good news for the moment -- the circulation center of Fiona is displaced off to the west of the main convective region --- therefore, rapid development is not likely. Will be monitoring the storm structure for any changes that could allow for further development. Expect the NHC to issue Tropical Storm Watches today followed by Tropical Storm Warnings by later tonight/tomorrow for the entire USVI. Residents should expect Tropical Storm conditions by Saturday morning! Take measures now to prepare for strong gusty winds (especially at higher elevations), potential power outages, heavy rain and flash flooding that may result in mudslides! #USVIwx #hurricaneseason2022
Rain Approaching USVI From East! Cluster of showers/thunderstorms preceding the main weather system entering the region. Rain could be heavy at times for some located in STT, STJ and/or STX through the late evening hours. Then, overall increased chances of rain through Sunday as the main weather system moves to the West/Northwest of the USVI. Localized flooding is possible, marine interests stay informed. Rain is welcomed!!!
National Hurricane Center is giving our approaching tropical wave about a 0% chance of development over the short term, and a 20% chance of development in 5 days/beyond. Anyone have any guesses as to its main inhibiting factor? Refer to the current GOES satellite at 8:20am AST. Take a dip -- and enjoy the VI!
Tropical Storm Grace is looking more impressive on Infrared Satellite over the past several hours! Pressure has decreased and winds have increased since the 8AM advisory. NOAA aircraft is scheduled to investigate Grace this afternoon to provide a better estimate of the storm's intensity. Max sustained winds now at 45 mph as of 11AM -- expected to further develop and so we must monitor 🥺 #TropicalStormGrace #usvirginislands
Good Early Morning, USVI! Potential Tropical Cyclone SIX is likely to become Tropical Storm Fred over the next several hours as this developing system passes near or south of St. Croix, USVI. A Tropical Storm WARNING has been issued for the entire area for later today and into the late evening. At 5AM AST the system was centered near latitude 15.7 North, longitude 62.2 West and moving toward the WNW at approx. 17 mph. This general motion is expected to continue over the next few days.
Over the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico...2 to 4 inches of rain can be expected, with isolated amounts of 6 inches. Heavy rainfall could lead to flash, urban, and small stream flooding and potential mudslides. Residents should remain alert for flash flooding potential, especially in areas known for such events and remain off roads during heavy rain conditions.
***Mariners should remain in port, alter course, and/or secure vessels for potential severe marine conditions later this afternoon and into overnight on Tuesday.***
