Another deer season has come around here in SC. The older I get, the faster they seem to come and go.

Folks, I want to be honest with you. Every year it becomes more and more critical for each and every one of us to be pristine stewards of our sport. We simply must do our best to be respectful and responsible in what we do if we want to continue doing it into the forseeable future.

Sometimes that may take what feels like some sacrifice on our part to keep the peace with the public. It’s going to take holding the bad eggs accountable instead of simply sweeping their actions under the rug. And it’s going to take putting the good of the sport above individual ego. Those may be hard truths, but they’re the truth nonetheless.

I was not able to hunt this morning, but I still said a prayer for every hunter and every hound heading to the woods. I hope each and every one of you enjoy the season, and please, take the initiative to represent our sport in the best way possible.

This is no longer something that can fall on the shoulders of a few.
