What happens when low-information voters meet a leader who responds to disasters with cruel, divisive remarks? Come join Garth German, Dave Whamond, Michael de Adder, Mike Luckovich, Martyn Turner, Peter Brookes, Walt Handelsman & Patrick Bagley

Garth German makes a good point, though I suspect he’s too late and we can’t reverse the process now. Here’s a relevant quote from Herman Wouk in the Caine Mutiny: The Navy is a master plan designed by geniuses for ex*****on by idiots. If you are not an idiot, but find yourself in the Navy, yo...

The other day we mentioned that James Gillray's 1805 cartoon of Pitt and Napoleon dividing the world was a classic that modern cartoonists still are inspired by ( https://tinyurl.com/v5cj8c6b ).

Another is "Rendezvous" by David Low from 1939. That is the cartoon David Pope ( https://theblower.au/ ) used as inspiration for a recent cartoon about Zuckerberg doing away with Facebook fact checkers and an anniversary that happened the day before Z's announcement.

Reality sure does seem to be getting serious, which makes this a good day to just check out some funny stuff. Come join Baby Blues, Alex, Crabgrass, Zachary Kanin, Speed Bump & Andertoons

Baby Blues (AMS) offers a last New Year’s gag as we start to settle into 2025, and once more raises the question I’ve asked before: Do people still get bonuses? I know they do in stock trading circles, so maybe that’s what Daryll does, though he’s sure around the house more than most go-gett...

It's a cold world full of lies, foolishness and frustration, but remembering Puff and his creator brings welcome warmth. Come join Harry Bliss, Royston, Nicola Jennings, Fiona Katauskas, Joe Heller and Peter Yarrow, who inspired so many Jackie Papers

Bliss (Tribune) comes to my rescue. It’s been extremely cold here, but it’s also been extremely necessary to get out with the dog and away from the idiots, which sounds like a very arrogant judgment, but it’s actually the most polite and charitable. After all, we’re not just seeing our incom...

What is truth, and does anybody care? Things are getting real, but truth is still out there. Come join Pat Bagley, Daniel Boris, Adam Zyglis, Steve Brodner, Robert Ariail, Joel Pett, RJ Matson and Harry Bliss and tend your garden without giving up.

This is one of those “Where do we begin?” moments. The torrent of horrifying, dishonest, ridiculous nonsense that has poured out over the past 48 hours or so seems overwhelming, and I ended up with so many links to so much argumentation that I had to sort through them to come up with a reasonabl...

Dozens of cartoonists have come out in support of Ann Telnaes in her objection to Washington Post editors. The Daily Cartoonist shows parts of 32 cartoons and links to over three dozen full cartoons backing Ann.

Editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes, late of The Washington Post, has written a note of gratitude for the support shown to her following her standing up to the WaPo’s staff trying to control her cartoon’s subject matter: I wanted to say how much I appreciate and am sincerely touched by all your not...

I didn't watch yesterday's vote but it happened anyway. My vote is for laughter the day aughter, so come join Wallace the Brave, Speed Bump, Big Nate, Free Range, Pooch Cafe, Cornered, Betty, Alex plus James Thurber, E.B. White & Carl Rose

Wallace the Brave (AMS)‘s Mom decides that a snow day should be a snow day. I feel that education is very valuable, and I suspect she does, too, but snow days are also important and, besides, between the digital divide and power outages, you wouldn’t achieve perfect attendance and the day would ...

Art Spiegelman: No ‘Gaza’ Graphic Novel in Works

Art Spiegelman is clarifying a news story that first surfaced on Hyperallergic in December that he was working on a new graphic novel about Gaza with Joe Sacco. The Pulitzer Prize winning Maus author says his comment on what he was currently working was twisted from a three page comic into an “epi...

It's January 6. Do you know where your nation is? Ann Telnaes does, and others are wising up. Come join Tjeerd Royaards, Ted Littleford, Mike Smith, Dave Whamond, Bill Day, David Horsey & Peter Steiner, plus Charlie Sykes, Steve Schmidt & Olga Lautman

The tribute cartoons marking Ann Telnaes’ courageous departure from the Washington Post continue to appear, and DD Degg has links to several. This one is by Tjeerd Royaards, editor at Cartoon Movement, and that organization has released a statement on the situation which is worth a read, because i...

Jon Russo has joined the Creators Syndicate stable of editorial cartoonists.

Creators Syndicate found a conservative political cartoonist to fill the empty left by Bob Gorrell’s retirement. Jon Russo signed with Creators last month/year with his first cartoon appearing there on December 26, 2024. While definitely on the right side of the fence he will not ignore the Republ...

Having taken things too seriously for entirely too long, we're going on a frivolity break. Come join Sharon Murdoch, Tommy Siegel, Barney & Clyde, Sherman's Lagoon, Baby Blues, Big Nate, Arlo & Janis, Dean Patterson, Mike Stokoe and the Splats!

I’ve had enough reality lately, but it’s best to ease your way out of it gently to avoid getting the bends, and Sharon Murdoch’s reality-based take on an old Irish blessing is just what I needed. I hung around with Irish ex-pats for several years and never ran into this blessing except in gift...

Tea Fougner and King Features Part Ways
Tea, Executive Director Comics at King Features, has left the company. "Today was my last day at King Features."

Yesterday Tea Fougner, Editorial Director of King Features Syndicate since 2018, posted on her LinkedIn page that she has stepped down from her position at KFS and from the company itself. Tea wrote: Today was my last day at King Features. I was offered a choice between a reduced role and a severanc...

The resignation of Ann Telnaes from the Washington Post is major news on social media. Here's a deeper look at a talented political cartoonist who has long preached freedom and a free press and has now proven she can live up to those values.

We try to avoid duplication and stepping on each other’s toes around here, and by now you’ve likely seen DD Degg’s coverage of Ann Telnaes’ resignation from the Washington Post. And if you haven’t seen his coverage here, you’ve almost certainly seen some coverage because it is all over t...

Ann Telnaes Quits The Washington Post!
"As an editorial cartoonist, my job is to hold powerful people and institutions accountable. For the first time, my editor prevented me from doing that critical job. So I have decided to leave the Post."

I’ve never had a cartoon killed because of who or what I chose to aim my pen at. Until now. Ann Telnaes has ended her relationship with The Washington Post. On her Open Windows Substack she goes into detail about why she HAD to do it, and presents the full cartoon that offended the powers […]
