Our Story

Know the Community was founded in 2006 to help newcomers to the Montgomery Area discover all of its history, rich culture and friendly neighbors. With over 25 private schools and several public school options, the KtC guide serves to help new movers with ways to get their families plugged in to their River Region community.

The founder, Pam Mashburn, has experienced numerous relocations, including one overseas to Frankfurt, Germany. While an expatriate in Germany, she was an active member of the American Women’s Club, helping new members to feel more comfortable in their new surroundings by providing advice, referrals and help with maneuvering in German society. Upon returning, Pam continued this outreach in the US, leading to the formation of Know the Community and a welcome wagon type service called Warm Welcome Montgomery.

We have stay-at-home moms and retired school teachers that help up welcome our new neighbors to Montgomery. Our goal is to help you find helpful information that locals “know” to help make your life easier as you settle in. Please feel free to contact us with questions or items that you think would be helpful to future newcomers
