The firm started up 10 years ago and focused for most of that time on for residential applications but lately has widened its focus to small commercial customers, too, according to the two executives.

While Order 2222 cleared a path to markets for storage-based (VPPs), the firm touted some local retail versions including a large demo in Berlin, Germany, and one in Salt Lake City, Utah, and suggested how it can help grow many more.

Electriq is a residential storage system and related services provider that formed in 2014 and recently announced three deployments where its PowerPod 2 intelligent home storage system will be able to show its worth to homeowners and the firms that serve them.

One deployment is in Northern with MCE, reportedly the original community choice (CCA) in the state, and another is a pilot in Grand Caymen with Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. to 10 homes. Both these deployments are focused on the virtual power plant (VPP) features of home storage and Electriq offers energy management software and a mobile app as key parts of the product.

The third recent announcement was a project with Parlier, Calif, where 4,000 homes across multiple income groups including low-income households will have the storage systems installed.
