2.5 years ago I sent a social management proposal at $750/month and landed my 1st client.

Over the last month I've sent out proposals ranging from $1000-5000/month.

When I compare my prices to others, I'm still a better value than my competition, but that price increase is a direct reflection of the growth in skillset that's happened over the past 2.5 years.

If you're struggling to make sales, remember it isn't that you're overpriced...it's that you need to offer that value to the right audience.

When I hear people say things like "no one wants to work anymore" all I can think about is 2017 - 2020...when I worked for a company starting at $11/hr and ending at $14/hr. Today, I work for myself. I do many of the same tasks in regards to social media and data entry (and when I say same I mean near identical). I make substantially more than $14/hr.

I'm not smarter than I was 3 years ago (other than deciding to quit that job and trust I could build a sustainable business). I don't have any more education than I did 3 years ago. I haven't suddenly done something that makes me "worth" more per hour.

So maybe it's not so much that "no one wants to work" and it's more that people want to work for a livable wage with people they like and respect. Maybe it's that people want to determine their own worth instead of being told what their value is by a company that would replace them before their body was cold.

Today I work with clients I genuinely enjoy working with. I don't take clients who aren't aligned with my business mission or don't respect boundaries. I love what I do. I love helping businesses grow. I love that I can wear my PJs or get dressed. I love that I can work from my couch or my desk. I love that I can take off whenever I want, whether it's for vacation, to help a friend or family member out, or just because I need a mental health day.

Is it any wonder that I wouldn't want to work in a job like I used to?

Set realistic goals and work hard. It’s important to have an idea of what you want to accomplish and set manageable goals that you can work towards. Don’t be afraid to put in the extra effort to make it happen.

Have you ever felt this way? For a longtime, I didn't, but thanks to a decision I made last year, I do now!

I was at home enjoying my day off when I got the text. It wasn't surprising to hear from work when I was off the clock, but this time it felt different... like something clicked in me as I read it and suddenly all the pieces fit into place. That moment was what changed everything for me because I realized that sitting at a desk all day, feeling unimportant even though I was doing good work...this wasn't how life should be. And so I did what any sensible girl would do in such a situation: quit her job.

Now to be fair, quitting a job isn't exactly easy or cheap. So after pulling myself together, I created a business plan that since has evolved into Calypso Studio Social, a boutique agency offering social media management, web design with SEO optimization, and ads management.

With the increase of social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, it's easy for people to think that they can just use those platforms instead of a website, but in today's world, your business needs to have a website in order for people to find you. There are many benefits that come from having an actual website such as: more control over content, ability to measure success with analytics tools, higher rankings on Google search engine results page (SERP), and much more! For me, this biggest benefit is ownership because while social media is a powerful tool, it isn't reliable. We've all seen outages hit social media platforms. If those platforms are your only way to reach customers, the outages are impacting your ability to turn a profit. During an outage, how will customers find you? Are you ok with waiting hours or days before you regain access to your accounts? How many customers will you miss out on during that time?

With your own website, your customers will always have access to your business and you will always have control of your content. You can even leverage the Google Analytics tools for free to get insights into how people find and interact with your site.

Everywhere I turn I keep seeing people promoting “hustle” culture…you know, that urge our society pushes to work longer, harder, faster, more…to keep grinding at our max day in and day out without a break. To accomplish “goals” faster than anyone else and condemn everyone who doesn’t. Look, I understand that working hard is important, but so is self-care, balance, time with family and friends.

In 2019, 55% of Americans reported feeling stressed about their lives, which is 20% higher than the global average. I wonder, just how much of our hustle is productive and how much is our addiction to being plugged in, busy, productive?

If you chose to slow down, what would life look like for you? If you gave yourself time for self-care, would you be better mentally? If you were fully present with your friends and family, would you enjoy your life more? How can you make your work hours more productive and focused so that you can do more in less time and then unplug?

I was always the kid that wanted to please others. My teachers, my parents, even strangers I met on the street. As an adult it took me a while to figure out who I really am and what makes me happy so for years I just kind of did whatever made everyone else happy.

After a lifetime of this pattern, it all started to feel like too much. Trying to be liked by everyone left me disliking myself. In the last year, I've found what makes me tick. I'm slowly letting go of the need to make others happy, and in doing so, I found a career that is immensely fulfilling.

It's official! Summer is here and we're all just too flippin' busy to check social media.

With everyone on vacation or taking time off of work, it can be tough to get people engaged with your posts this summer.

Here are some tips for increasing social media engagement in the summer months.

Tip #1- Build anticipation
In the summer, it can be tough to keep people excited about topics. A great way to do so is by building hype and anticipation for the content you have coming up. Post sneak peeks of upcoming blog posts or events that are happening in your community.

Tip #2- Ask questions on social media
One thing that always seems to work well during this time of year is asking a question on social media platforms like Instagram with accompanying images or videos as answers (think "What's your favorite vacation destination?"). It'll encourage interaction from followers and give them an opportunity for engagement too!

Tip #3- Find engaging hashtags ( )
If you're not sure which hashtags will engage more users this summer, take the time to research what others in your industry are using.

Tip #4 - Ask questions
Ask questions about topics relevant to your industry. This will encourage interaction from followers, as well as give them an opportunity for engagements too!

Doing these four things during the summer months should help keep engagement high on your social media platforms.
