Silver Tray Curated Coverage of St. Louis Musi(c)ulture

23/10/2024

Ever go through your inbox, finding an email exchange from one-year-minus-three-days ago? Just me? Cool, cool.

Back in October of '23, I'd just watched a video from The Schwag, dating back to their time as the precursor group known as The Kind. Traded a few emails with the fellas, got some back, waited on a few more, then a whole lotta time passed. This is the final installment of Silver Tray's Lost Interviews series.

Expect a small batch of stories to arrive here at the tiny corner of Facebook known as Silver Tray. "Your Eyes" is a song with over four decades of life to it and today we allow Steve Scorfina a chance to discuss his work with the songwriter Mike Somerville, this song the primary survivor of their short-lived '80s supergroup.

Sometimes we sit across a New Orleans coffee shop from Jeremy Joyce. (What up, Petite Clouet Cafe?!?) But for the purposes of this conversation we traded emails, touching on his recent music video release, the newfound touring in his life and some writing and recording projects on the near horizon.

Jeremy Joyce is a St. Louis expat, currently residing in New Orleans, LA, where he’s frequently seen cycling through town, often with a guitar slung ‘cross-shoulder. Of late, though, there’ve fewer sightings, as he’s been hitting the road as a member of rising blues artist Ghalia Volt’s to...

We return from a recent content slumber. Here's a digital chat with Shae Moseley of the California//St. Louis group Perfect Weather for Humans.

Shae Moseley was kind enough to send along his latest music from Perfect Weather for Humans, the EP NORTHSTAR. In fact, this blend of California and St. Louis-area players has released that music on this very day, December 1, via the usual streaming platforms, (save for Bandcamp will come later). Th...

We recently (e-)spoke to The Trophy Mules for the release of their last music video. No words this time, but we simply post a new video of theirs for your eyes and ears on Saturday morning.

Official music video for the song "Blood Red Cardinal" off the November 2022 album "No Sooner Than the Moon" by St. Louis band The Trophy Mules.

Today's page features thoughtful and informative chatter with the members of Petty Grievances. My goodness, my gosh; this is a great punk band.

Petty Grievances is made up of: Mark Eberhardt, bass; Scott Randall, vocals; Jerry Green, drums; and Brian Martin and Shauna Sublette, guitars. Sublette joined after recording sessions were held for the band’s four-song, seven-inch, self-titled EP, released by

An adjacent digital side hustle of Silver Tray is Artica Ever After, where yours truly is covering the history of Artica. The project was to have wrapped last weekend, tied to the latest festival, but I'm pushing interviews live through the end of the year. Lots of bands have performed at the fest over these 21 years and we've got conversations up with Johnny Vancouver and Final Veil, with a chat with Celia Shack Attack coming next week. (Sorry for the delay, Celia!) If you're a musician or band with ties to Artica, do let us know via Substack or here.

Cora Camille of Final Veil was kind enough to some questions about the experiences of her band, Final Veil, at the 2023 Artica festival. You can familiarize yourself with her musical background and the group’s history, as well, via the Final Veil website

We exchanged some email with Donald Williams of Sinister Dane, re: the band's upcoming album release alongside Fragile Porcelain Mice and 33 on the Needle.

Sinister Dane joins Fragile Porcelain Mice and 33 on the Needle for a show at Pop’s on Saturday, October 14. In advance of the show, we sent some questions to Donald Williams of Sinister Dane, who was kind enough to fill us in on the gig and the record SD’s releasing that evening,

Paying "work" be damned. We have more important things to do over here at Silver Tray HQ. Like talking poster art and design with Dan O'Saben, who's worked on some media material for the upcoming Pop's triple-bill of Fragile Porcelain Mice, Sinister Dane and 33 on the Needle.

We talked to Sean Garcia, recently featured here re: his role in the release of archival music by Spinning Jenny. This time, we travel all the way from the mid-'90s to mid-summer 2023. His "Morning Light" EP recently debuted on Bandcamp and we've got the story of its release and creation below.

J. Chambers of the New World Spirits and Blackout Angels is baaaack with new solo music, gigs and a want to make 2023 the jumping off point of his solo career. Lots to discuss with the songwriter, including a just-'round-the-corner gig at Blue Strawberry STL.

We're featuring two pieces about the late Gus Kodros, who was a key member of The Bishops and Small Ball Paul, among other acts. A second piece will follow, but today we're running the first, featuring two drummers who intersected with him over the years: Eric Harnetiaux and Andy Dykeman.
