I have just started using the program called Unreal Engine 4 to begin creating the environments for an animated Christian film. I reached the "face-palm" stage where I realized just how easy it is to learn. For months I have been studying this program at a distance, afraid of all the buttons, switches, and k***s. Once you jump in though, it's not so bad...😳

For anyone interested in animated film as a cost savings alternative to high-quality filmmaking. Give some thought to Unreal Engine 4, Blender, and Unity. These three programs are free, top of the line, high-powered, and have a ton of online communities ready to help.

I have recently begun working on an animated film and I can't describe the joy I get from creating something from scratch again.

I have to watch lots of tutorials and spend hour after hour behind my computer desk. But this is a big step for me and my studio brand I'm trying to build, Generation Studios.

I just formed the basic structure of my studio when Christ brought me this project and at times I have felt this was too much too soon. But the client is very patient and reasonable and is also new to animation. We are a match made in heaven, pun intended.

My personal and financial life is still all a complete mess but I want to urge and encourage all you wondering and waiting with your talents, just do it, just....do it. Take a risk even though you feel you won't be good enough or you won't measure up.

Remember Moses, he felt the same, but he went anyways and he and the world after him, for generations, have learn of the power and wisdom of God to save those of mankind who have believed.

In our darkest moments, light shines the brightest.

Today I like to shout-out a massive THANK YOU to Warren for his extremely generous $150 donation to my Gofundme! Thank you!

I set out last year on faith, believing that now is the time to forge my dream of creating a Christian creative arts studio to help believers worldwide achieve their artistic and spiritual callings.

For years I have witnessed the struggles indie filmmakers face when attempting to achieve the necessary level of film quality their works demand while balancing the limits of an insufficient budget. The result being a lowering of overall quality and reduction of cast and crew.

I started a fundraiser to fund my studio, Generation Studios L.L.C., in a mission to inspire a new generation of filmmakers to create new works, new characters, and new possibilities for art that sings the praises of the Kingdom.

But first we need a solution to our low budget and quality control problems.

It’s not a secret that Christian films have a reputation for being overly preachy and visually sub-standard, even among believers. Otherwise, wouldn't we ourselves spend an equal amount of time and money on Christian entertainment as we do on secular entertainment?

Our faith is world-class. Our movies should be as well.

Hollywood has billions of investment dollars on demand to literally make movies no one wants to see, but they still manage to stay a float in order to bring the same anti-faith and anti- American messages year after year. It's partly our fault for paying them with our time and/or money, but a better question is why do we pay just to be just disappointed?

The answer: Quality.

Flashy explosions. Top actors. Top directors. Large casts. Expansive environments. Famous stories and characters.

Basically what Hollywood has always been known for: Entertainment.

For us Christian indies, we have to stick as close to this model as our faith allows. We have to learn how to entertain. We also need talented actors, world-class cinematography, large casts, and amazing film sets.

Generation Studios has discovered a means to do just that. Low budget, high-quality productions with unlimited customization options. Today filmmakers have a new tool that we never had before.

Sidenote: I’m a bit of a history buff.

As a Christian, when I look back at ancient Rome, I can’t help but think that God allowed Rome to be so great and expand so far just so one day it could convert over to Christianity and allow the spread of the Gospel throughout the known world and the historical record.

Likewise, with technology, God has dropped something marvelous into our laps for us to use for His Son’s Glory.

These are the tools I plan to use to create my 3D Christian animated films in the months and years to come. Doing more with less is my motto when it comes to films.

I honestly don't think we can compete well enough for souls by mainly focusing on live action. I'm here to share my 3D journey and hopefully persuade some to stray from the beaten path.

I was in a meeting once with my boss, a CEO of a video production company here in south Florida. He was a middle aged christian man and we were in his office having a friendly chat after lunch. I was about 28.

He asked me what my dreams/goals were and I said in the next five years or so I wanted to be creating Christian sci-fi, fantasy, and action films since we are woefully under represented in those genres and if given the choice in entertainment, even most Christians would choose secular movie options.

I will never forget, he looked at me so dismissively, as if I was trying to sell him on the process of turning lead into gold. He said christian action films would be too risky and too costly and no one will be willing to invest in them. I then said that since my university days I have been developing a formula to counteract that very thought path. He then changed the topic without responding to that statement.

I realized two things then. First that you can't describe the beauty of the sunset to those born blind. Secondly, the joy I felt when someone tells me I can't or am unlikely to succeed at something I love.

People have to be able to 'see' first before they will be able to understand. Therefore, my goals for this year are to produce, produce, produce content in order to share my creative vision of using photo-realistic 3D animation to speed up production, cut costs, and spread the news of Christ through roadways less traveled by other traditional forms of Christian media.

I plan to test and share the knowledge and experience I receive with as many Christian creators that want to listen.

So I decided to make a chart below on a few pros that 3D animation has right out of the box. I will soon make a chart with some of the cons as well. I would love your feed back. especially from the industry veterans among us. God bless.

A big concern I have with creating my own films is a viable distribution model or platform outside of YouTube that will allow me to advertise my creative works and let me connect with my audience. Do I build this community from scratch or is there a better way to distribute? I know of services like Pureflix and Vidangel, I just don't think they would be into working with Christian-indie filmmakers that do not already have a considerable following.

I have a question. As Christians and conservatives how far should we be willing to go to reach new audiences to display the virtue of our ideals? How much of the "other side" should we include in our works? How "realistic" should our narratives be?

I ask because I am in the conception stages of an animated online mini-series that uses "magic" as a major plot point. Some viewers may not have an issue with this but some Christians may. I plan to use magic not in its traditional sense but as a power source in this fictional fantasy realm. Similar to our technology.

Instead of science and physics, they have magic and magi-tech (magitek). Certain rocks and substances in this fictional world have unique attributes and are manipulated by different specialists such as magicians, sorcerers, wizards, and so on.

The ultimate discussion within this work is to determine if mankind can save itself and control its own destiny or will it need help from a higher power.

I could replace the use of "magic" with traditional science but I feel that this particular form of "magic" used in a more mechanical way is not too common in western stories and will thus add a degree of emphasis and identity to the work.

I was looking at this video from nearly two years ago and suddenly my imagination as a creator just went wild. I started to make new scenes in my head with new characters and backstories, all in an attempt to utilize the images I was seeing to the height of their potential. While doing some research on conservative and Christian filmmakers, I came by a quote that said roughly, " When God opens doors in filmmaking, they are small, low doors forcing you to humble yourself and bend down to enter."

I remember this quote every time I pitch a company for resources or donations to start my own studio.

I remember this quote whenever I am afraid of the word "No".

I remember this quote in the morning when I wake up and at night when I lay down.

I have learned through this that Fear wins when you give up. And defeat happens when Pride takes over.

I realize today from talking to so many talented filmmakers and creators online just how bad the epidemic is of so many bottled up dreams trying to be released.

I think from an industry prospective we aspiring filmmakers need to contemplate two things.

That one, a new generation of viewers who grew up on Fortnite and flashy explosions will soon be our new audience. Secondly, we need to understand that the average viewer, for around 50 cents a day, has access to thousands of high quality content streams.

We need to evolve. We need to play our home field advantage, instead of being the away team. It is obvious to me that we can't compete in the live-action arena. There has to be a major effort to branch out and discover new realms of creativity, this was how film was created in the first place.

Our message as Christians is right and just, but we trying to hand deliver the mail in a Porsche we can't afford while the world is using email.

I hate to say this and I don't want to be seen as an heretic or extremist for saying so but, if I see another film about the life of Jesus that doesn't employ some kinda major plot or artistic changes as did The Chosen, I'm going to through my monitor!

There was a scene in Marvel's Daredevil a few years back that I was telling a friend about. The hero is captured by the vigilante villain The Punisher, who kills criminals as opposed to Daredevil just beating them up and handing them to police. The two men argue their morals on how to stop evil. The hero says basically that everyone makes mistakes and deserves a second chance to correct their lives. If he only mentioned God in that context wam bam! over Christian film of the year.

In other scenes you have Daredevil's character arguing with his Catholic mentor priest that he must be a hero to fight crime because God is not doing anything to stop the suffering in the world.

Although this show does and says many things wrong, this is an example of what can be done right in Christian movies seeking to evolve and enter the realm of traditional entertainment in order to reach traditional viewers who might say, "I never thought of it that way." and give other Christian themed movies a shot.
