🗡The Song of Achilles🗡
The February pick for @novelfriendsbookclub was The Song of Achilles by @madeline.e.miller
🚨Possible Spoilers below…if you haven’t read it.
The love story between Achilles and Patroclus was true and beautiful. The beginning was a little difficult for me because of the pronunciation of names which I didn’t know. But once I found the audio book I really enjoyed the book. The ending was really heartbreaking, I didn’t know anything about this in history so i really didn’t see it coming. It’s definitely not how I wanted it to end.

Achilles, "the best of all the Greeks," son of the cruel sea goddess Thetis and the legendary king Peleus, is strong, swift, and beautiful, irresistible to all who meet him. Patroclus is an awkward young prince, exiled from his homeland after an act of shocking violence. Brought together by chance, they forge an inseparable bond, despite risking the gods' wrath. They are trained by the centaur Chiron in the arts of war and medicine, but when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, all the heroes of Greece are called upon to lay siege to Troy in her name. Seduced by the promise of a glorious destiny, Achilles joins their cause, and torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus follows. Little do they know that the cruel Fates will test them both as never before and demand a terrible sacrifice.

Thank you NetGalley and Harperalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I’m not usually a fan of graphic novels but this kept my interest the whole way through. It’s fast paced and also will keep the interest of middle schoolers. The artwork was beautiful, characters were relatable (except the fact that they were magical) and the familiars were great! I love that they can communicate with each other!
Overall great book!

When Jackson returns home from a tour with the Marines we find him wheelchair bound and without his childhood friends he left with. He has no one to turn to except Eleanor. With her helping guide him thru his recovery in hopes he finds this purpose and journey in life.
This was a truly eye opening read for me. Yes I know men and women in all branches of the military come home with many invisible wounds, but reading this made it more real for me. It opened my eyes to the daily struggles these hero’s go through. I have a deeper admiration for them.
You know this a good book when you spend the entire last chapter crying. Not just a little bit of tears, no full on sobbing, nose running and eyes burning from the mascara you’re wearing.
Amazing job Alexandra! Cant wait to read the rest of Jacksons story!

A person can be many different things. Sometimes they can be two different things at the same time. This is the perfect book to demonstrate that.
My favorite one is “full and hungry.” Because a person can be full after just eating lunch or dinner and then they see the dessert menu and be so hungry!
The illustrations were so adorable.

Summary:
Though they’re apart, this mother never stops thinking about her child.
A mother bear tells her child about her workday. She describes one activity after another, following each description with “And I think about you.” As we see her at her tasks, we see the corresponding activity she imagines with her child. Then, turn the page, and we see the child in a parallel activity at school. From reading emails to sharing projects with coworkers, the mother is reminded of her child. And their days remain intertwined, connected by their love.
The repeated refrain — “And I think about you” — is one no child ever tires of hearing.

This was the first MM Romance book I have ever read and it definitely WON’T be the last!. The two main characters were people who I normally wouldn’t see together..but that’s just me. Aiden; the physically fit, handsome, thoughtful man that just wants to find this forever love. Doesn’t everyone? Then we have Johnny. He is a “nerdy” Greek-American with a large Greek family. Personally I think Johnny is a whiny little boy who wants everyone to feel sorry for him. Yes, I understand he got his heart broken by his ex. It sucks, I’ve had it happen to me. But damn. Don’t let that make you bitter and against love. Thankfully he has his mother and best friend Bitsy, who convince him to sign up for a couple dating apps.
I wasn’t sure if i was going to enjoy the genre but I really did. I can’t wait to see what else Dianna Roman comes up with!
** There is one thing that I didn’t enjoy and feel that shouldn’t have been included. The “sneak peak” at the end of the book. I think it should have ended at the epilogue.
