Gen Z Critics The Gen Z Critics brings young film critics together, giving them a platform to express their opinions while helping them connect with fellow critics.

Gen Z Critics was founded by Elizabeth Kim and New York Film Critics Series Producer Mark Ehrenkranz when they realized the lack of emphasis on youths’ opinions in the world of film criticism. It aspires to raise awareness about the bright young film critics in the US and make film criticism appeal to other youths as well. The Club’s annual contest is judged by professional film critics from the Boston Film Critics Society and the New York Film Critics Circle.

It’s with a mixture of pride and sadness that we bid farewell to our first ever Social Media Manager Alisyn Amant, who will be working at a local newspaper, The Oregon Observer, after her college graduation! Throughout the past year, Alisyn launched Gen Z Critics’ TikTok and Letterboxd, and revitalized our Insta and Twitter with her creativity, diligence, and meticulousness. Thank you Alisyn for all you have done; we are so excited to cheer you on as you do brilliant things in the future. Love from the Gen Z Critics Team.

Finally, our 2022 Grand Prize Winner is... Anastasia Ibrahim! 🎉 She reviewed "To All The Boys: Always and Forever" (2021), and wrote about flipping clichés to encourage Gen Z to chase after their writing dreams.

"Anastasia is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. She’s an Egyptian American MENA (Middle East North African) peoples advocate, and the president of the MENA student’s association at Yale. She’s a writer for the Yale Herald and Yale Daily News, and the co-producer and host of ‘One Seat Over’—a narrative storytelling podcast. She’s an aspiring screenwriter and can usually be found writing sketch comedy and film coverage, doing standup, or religiously fawning over John Mulaney."

Congratulations, Anastasia!

You can read Anastasia's–and the rest of the participant's–work on our website.

Creating a community of young film critics

Gen Z Critics was founded by college student Elizabeth Kim and New York Film Critics Series Producer Mark Ehrenkranz in July of 2016 when they realized the lack of youth opinion in film criticism. It publishes the reviews of young film critics and hosts an annual contest, which is judged by members of the Boston Film Critics Society and the New York Film Critics Circle.
