Live in Pender and didn't get your January 2nd paper yet? It's on its way. A mislabeled bundle of papers affecting roughly 40 subscribers was tracked down today and it was not the fault of our local Post Office. I apologize for the delay and appreciate the few folks who called in so we could fix the problem!

The Village of Pender is informing the public not to consume water until a test clears the village's water system of safe nitrate levels. Please note that cases of water (1 per family) are available at the village office. It is particularly unsafe for children under six months of age or those with a pre-existing health concern. BOILING DOES NOT LOWER THE NITRATE LEVEL, so substitute with BOTTLED WATER, especially if you've got young children.

ATTENTION:
Water drinking notice-DO NOT BOIL!
Water will be provided at the community center/village office (limited to one case per household).

"THE BATTLES OF HEYNE FIELD"

The 1982 Pendragons went 6-3 and won their Homecoming effort on Heyne Field on this night over Scribner, 28-0. On the line for PHS you've got center Kurt Lehmkuhl with Mark McQuistan, Brett Wall and Dan Westerhold to his left. And then there's a guy under center who, as it turns out, might know a thing or two about football. I'm sure someone out there can name him....

The final regular season varsity game to be played at Heyne Field will take place on October 11. In the lead up to that game, The Pender Times will be celebrating with this look back series of Facebook posts commemorating big moments on the field's storied history.

"THE BATTLES OF HEYNE FIELD"

We're going to keep it back in the 1950s again on this one — because we'd be remiss not to get this 1952 squad its due. The group won the East Husker title and was narrowly edged by Stanton at the end of the year in winning the entire Husker Conference championship. From what I could tell researching, that may have been the only loss of the season.

A great way to honor the history of Pender with a keepsake.

"THE BATTLES OF HEYNE FIELD"

Let's get in the time machine and head back 70 years. Here are the Pendragons who played at Heyne Field for their Homecoming matchup with Homer on October 15, 1954. The Knights scored late in the fourth quarter to edge PHS, 20-14. How many of these fellas do you know?

"THE BATTLES OF HEYNE FIELD"

This image at Heyne Field comes from the first round of the 2011 playoffs, a 54-40 victory over Deshler that was put on ice with this interception by Austin Heineman with help from teammate Zack Johnson. The win took PHS to 8-0. As the 2024 incarnation of Pender High School football prepares to meet undefeated Guardian Angels Central Catholic (5-0) tonight at Heyne Field, the feel that a district title could be on the line is in the air. While a loss wouldn't end Pender's (4-1) playoff hopes, it might impact whether a first round home playoff game would be in the cards to extend Heyne's life another game when the first round begins on Oct. 24.

The final regular season Pender High School football game to ever be played at Heyne Field will take place on October 11. In the lead up to that game, The Pender Times will be celebrating with this look back series of Facebook posts commemorating big moments on the field's storied history.

"THE BATTLES OF HEYNE FIELD"

The goal posts and sidelines traveled inward after the 2007 season, and September 5, 2008 marked the start of a new era in Pender High School football at Heyne Field as the first 8-man game in the school's history was played. This gang tackle by the Pendragon defense wasn't enough that day to defeat Hartington-Newcastle (a 44-22 loss). Pender took some time to adjust to the new format as they started out 1-7 in both 2008 and 2009, but that was followed by an 8-2 season in 2010 and 8-1 in 2011.

The final regular season Pender High School football game to ever be played at Heyne Field will take place on October 11. In the lead up to that game, The Pender Times will be celebrating with this look back series of Facebook posts commemorating big moments on the field's storied history.
