Sappy, nostalgic tears and laughs this week as Jackie and Char decide to research the family tree of two leading family lines of the notorious, long running soap opera, Days of Our Lives. Yep, you read that correctly. Why did we do this? Simply, because we can. http://thisiswhatwefound.libsyn.com/ep-69?tdest_id=3159542

Listener Episode Thirteen took us on a fascinating journey through the history of the Odell family, hailing from Bedfordshire, England. It was a historical romp, tracing their roots from the hills of woad to a witch trial in Connecticut, and finally ending up in the iconic Sleepy Hollow village of Tarrytown, New York. As history enthusiasts, we couldn't resist the allure of an ancient cemetery.

Our listener episode for this month is so very rich in cultural heritage that we were pleasantly overwhelmed! The Odell family, hailing from Bedfordshire, England embarked on a transatlantic journey that led them eventually to the serene area of Sleepy Hollow, New York. This family began a chapter, weaving their own narrative into the tapestry of this historic town that then led the family to branch out to Hammonton, NJ. http://thisiswhatwefound.libsyn.com/ep-66?tdest_id=3159542

Join us this week as we talk about the Ellsworth family origins, from Cambridgeshire, England, to the new England colonies. Being a maternal line for Larry, this story has mesmerized us. We delve into quite a few tales, including the infamous Addison Ellsworth, who ended up in Eastern State Penitentiary, and the elder Addison and his obsession with Entomology. https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/27184527/tdest_id/3159542

The 1890 United States census was mostly destroyed in a fire that occurred in January 1921 at the Commerce Building in Washington DC. Approximately 99% of the census records were destroyed in the fire, either completely or partially. This has made it difficult for historians and genealogists to reconstruct family histories and demographic trends from this time period. Some fragments of the census, such as a few pages from some county records, survived the fire and can still be accessed. However, the destruction of the majority of the 1890 census records remains a significant loss for researchers.
Did you know the 1890 was in TWO fires 🔥 🔥???

We have wanted to chat about the 1890 Census for some time and are happy to say we have made all your wildest dreams come true this week. In 1921 the collection of papers that compiled the census data of 1890 encountered a significant loss due to a fire, but what we found was this wasnt the first brush with fire for these precious documents! Who was the dancing Professor and why was George intoxicated on the job? https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/27099018/tdest_id/3159542

Antonio Giannini, born in Camaiore, Provincia di Lucca, Toscana, Italy in 1747, migrated to the American colonies during the early 18th century. Alongside his wife, Maria Domenica Modena (1747-1824), Giannini arrived as a young man and worked as an indentured servant under Philip Mazzei. After fulfilling his bound labor contract, he joined Thomas Jefferson's team as a gardener and utilized his expertise in the Italian style of gardening that prioritized symmetry and balance in garden design.
Later on, Giannini purchased land on Buck Island in Albemarle County, Virginia. His descendants can be found across America today, as he and Maria had several children.

We really hope you missed us! Jackie & Char are BACK to simultaneously disappoint and amaze you all with our chat about a maternal line by the name of Giannini. Just what does Thomas Jefferson and wine bushes have to do with this? Oh, a helluva lot. Join us once again to learn a little or nothing at all, as we chat about Monticello, the Waltons, Charlotte's Web and even the swanky show, Falcon Crest. http://thisiswhatwefound.libsyn.com/ep-63?tdest_id=3159542

Episode 62
Our last Episode for the season explores a discovered line of the Murphy family from Valentia Island, Co Kerry, Ireland.

The legend of John "Paul Jones" Murphy (born abt 1750) who married Mary Lynch, sister of Patrick Lynch. The Murphy and Lynch families of Valentia Island married for generations, creating a shared family history.

Also explored, the fun legend of Mug Ruith. A mythical blind druid is said to have made his home on Valentia.
Special thanks to our Co Kerry cousins who continue to reach out and impart invaluable family history and information. We are eternally grateful.
*Yes, we know this episode aired last week.

So much fun this week, who knew?! On a much lighter note, Char and Jack sifted through a maternal line we weren't quite sure was correct. With the help from a new found cousin, we found the Murphy's from Valentia Island, County Kerry. Looking into the island we discovered just what a very compelling and charismatic place it was and still is. Following our Lynch line back to Valentia we found the Murphy family very intertwined. http://thisiswhatwefound.libsyn.com/ep-62?tdest_id=3159542

Episode 61

Five years ago we made the odd discovery of a very close NPE (non-paternity event). It was not the only instance, but this one was the most recent. Ghosts, strange lights, monsters, abandoned castle ruins, druid temples in New Jersey? Charlotte and Jackie explore the legends and stories of Clinton Road, Passaic County NJ, and the family of Richard James Cross (1845-1917).
Richard Cross was a wealthy banker of the Gilded Age, who built a Tudor-style castle, named Bearfort, off of one of America's most haunted roads in the Newfoundland section of West Milford. Modern-day urban legends claim Richard had occult ties. Is this just another story added to the lore of haunted Clinton Road?
