There is a vast difference between Content Creator and Wedding Film Producer.
Unlike a wedding film producer, content creators aren’t concerned with capturing everything that’s happening on the wedding day. Their end goal is to capture and share footage online as quickly as possible. Couples should also consider that this means they’ll have little or no control over what will be shared.
A content creator should never replace a pro video producer. They also shouldn’t be expected to have professional video equipment and will typically use their iPhone. Official wedding film producers deliver high quality footage that you’ll watch and share with your children for many years to come. We believe that a wedding film is worth much more than getting as many ‘likes’ and comments as possible.
If you’re considering hiring a content creator, be sure to ask what measures they’ll take to prevent the loss of precious footage. No method is completely bullet proof and footage shot on an iPhone may not be backed up. DSLR cameras (used by pro videographers) come with two card slots, so if something happens to the files on one of the cards (happens more than you think), then everything is on the other card as a backup. In addition, we film all ceremonies with two cameras — yes, we have backup for our backup!
Here are some requirements for a content creator (until they’re not):
1) Phone purchased within the past 2 years
2) understanding of wedding day events is preferred but not required
3) additional content creator equipment preferred but not required
They may not be the pro you really want. Possessing the latest phone doesn’t validate them (see #1). Unaware of the happenings on a wedding day should absolutely be required in order to be in the right place at the right time and #3 means they won’t necessarily have adequate lighting equipment.
A content creator would also be another body continually trying to capture shots and this could impede other professionals. Be sure your media team meets and each understands their role.
In conclusion, if you want raw, unfiltered, behind-the-scenes content or want to relive moments of your wedding as early as the next day, hire a wedding content creator. However, consider them an extra member of your media team, rather than a replacement for a professional wedding film producer.
