Bob Jones vs Huntsville High: Huntsville Secures an Impressive Win 63-48

The Huntsville High Panthers defeated the Bob Jones Patriots 63-48 in an exciting early-season matchup that showcased depth, talent, and hustle. From the opening tip, Huntsville set the tone with big man Josh Bowman dominating the paint, scoring 14 points and grabbing 6 rebounds, proving to be a force on both ends of the floor.

JD Gossett stepped up with 12 points and a game-high 7 rebounds, making clutch plays and hustling all over the court. Simon Walker added 9 points and 5 rebounds, providing solid support on both ends.

For Bob Jones, Kaden Rickard was the standout performer, pouring in 20 points and doing everything he could to keep his team in the game. The Patriots were missing several key players still finishing football season, but Rickard played with determination, attacking the rim and showing why he's one of the state’s top guards.

Despite being shorthanded, Bob Jones fought hard, but Huntsville's depth made the difference. Head Coach Christian Schweers went 10 players deep in the first quarter, flexing the team's depth. Schweers praised his veteran squad for their energy, particularly young shooter Hudson Gossett, who confidently hit shots from beyond the arc.

Huntsville pushed the pace, moved the ball effectively, and wore down Bob Jones with their depth. The introduction of a 35-second shot clock brought a faster pace and intensity that energized the crowd, signaling a new era for Alabama high school basketball.

With momentum on their side, Huntsville looks ahead to their next game on November 15th against Lee-Huntsville. Bob Jones will regroup for their matchup on November 12th at Buckhorn, and once at full strength, they’ll be tough to beat.

1. Hoover (30-3, Last Season: State Champions)
Hoover comes into the 2024-2025 season as the reigning state champions of Class 7A. After an impressive 30-3 record last season, Hoover is aiming for three titles in a row. Led by Mr. Basketball frontrunner and Tennessee signee Dewayne Brown, UAB commit Salim London, and potential D1 signee Jarrett Fairley, Hoover's tenacity and experience make them the team to beat.

2. Huntsville High (32-3, Last Season: Final Four)
Huntsville High boasts one of the most formidable teams this year, coming off a stellar 32-3 record and a deep run to the Final Four. The Panthers are hungry to reach the championship this season, relying on cohesive defense and an explosive offense. Huntsville High has four D1 signees, led by Auburn commit Simon Walker, making them well-equipped to challenge Hoover for the crown.

3. Central Phenix-City (29-8, Last Season: Final Four)
Central Phenix-City finished last season with a 29-8 record and a Final Four appearance. With returning talent led by Jacksonville State commit Jacoby Hill, they are set to make another push for the top, aiming for their third straight Final Four appearance. Their grit and physical play will be tough for any opponent to match.

4. Dothan (18-9, Last Season: First Round)
Dothan's 18-9 record from last season may not tell the whole story. Though they exited in the first round, they have retooled and are expected to come out stronger this year. Dothan arguably has the best backcourt in the state with senior Bryson Berry and junior Diggy Coleman. With a more experienced roster and a chip on their shoulder, Dothan is ready to prove they belong among the best in 7A.

5. Florence (15-12, Last Season: Second Round)
Florence is a team that flies under the radar but has the potential to surprise many this season. After making it to the second round with a 15-12 record, Florence looks to make bigger strides. Adding Jalen Chandler and Jaylen Blackwell to join Bryant James gives them a solid core and a strong defensive identity, positioning them for a deeper run in 2024-2025.

6. Auburn (27-6, Last Season: Elite Eight)
Auburn advanced to the Elite 8 last season with a 27-6 record. With much of their squad returning, they have high hopes for a Final Four appearance or better. Auburn's balanced attack and high-energy play style make them a tough opponent for anyone.

7. Carver-Montgomery (17-15, Last Season: Final Four - 6A)
Carver-Montgomery is new to Class 7A but comes with pedigree, having reached the Final Four in Class 6A last season. Despite their 17-15 record, Carver's experience in high-pressure situations makes them a dangerous contender in 7A. The merger with Sidney Lanier adds depth and talent, building a foundation for a future powerhouse.

8. Baker (25-8, Last Season: Elite Eight)
Baker made it to the Elite 8 last season with a solid 25-8 record. Known for their high-tempo offense, Baker's relentless scoring ability will keep defenses on their toes. Led by South Alabama signee Desmond Williams and Derrick "Bam" Florence, the best rebounder in the state, Baker's offensive firepower and improved defensive consistency could propel them even higher in the rankings this season.

9. Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (17-13, Last Season: First Round - 6A)
Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa made the jump to Class 7A after a 17-13 campaign in Class 6A. While they fell in the first round last year, Hillcrest is ready to embrace the challenge of competing in 7A. Their tenacity and willingness to compete make them an intriguing team to watch.

10. Enterprise (27-6, Last Season: State Championship Runner-Up)
Enterprise rounds out the top 10 but should not be underestimated. They reached the State Championship game last season and finished with an impressive 27-6 record. Led by standout junior Tucker Wadsworth, and the addition of senior point guard Ty Bryant, a transfer from Prattville, Enterprise is bolstered with experience and depth. They will need to overcome the early departure of top football prospect Eric Winters, who left for college early after committing to Auburn. Despite this setback, Enterprise's returning talent and added leadership make them a formidable team with a strong chance of getting back to the title game this season.

Overview

Class 7A is loaded with talent, and this preseason ranking is just the beginning of what promises to be a thrilling year. From defending champions Hoover to teams like Enterprise and Huntsville High looking to dethrone them, there is no shortage of storylines heading into the new season. Fans can expect high-intensity matchups, breakout performances, and plenty of surprises as these top teams battle for supremacy in Alabama high school basketball.
