Seth and I do Dumb Ghost to build out our community of like-minded weirdos. As a primarily digital label with 📉 money, Bandcamp is really the only place we can still offer quality downloads for quality music at quality prices (usually donation-based!).

We know Bandcamp is still pretty niche, but hey, we are VERY niche so it works out 🤣 Building a community there hasn’t been the easiest thing. Cam here! One of the reasons Seth and I are great friends - and probably the main reason we wanted to start a label - is our mutual love for Sonic Youth and our endless ability to yammer on about them geekily. It’s so easy to do that with SY cuz they put out so many great albums that are completely different from one another. During our chat the other day, I asked Seth two questions:

1. What’s your favorite Sonic Youth record?
2. What’s the best Sonic Youth record?

Because if you truly love SY, you know there’s a difference. Also, it’s cool that you can ask these questions to two SY fans and get four completely different records…as was the case with us!

Funny thing was, I never even asked about Seth’s “guilty pleasure” SY album, but we soon learned we both shared the same one. So, Seth figured we should both be on the cover. 🤘🤣 It’s true that it’s not the star of the show in SY’s catalog as far as aging gracefully, but it contains one of our top fave SY tunes: the opener, Winner’s Blues.

What’s your favorite Sonic Youth album? Which one do you think is “the best”? What’s the one you actually listen to the most but would never admit to it out loud? 🤣

As we head into 2024 - potentially another, um, EVENTFUL one - Seth and I wanted to thank all of you who have supported DG over the last almost two years, so we teamed up to record a free EP for you called Seedlings. This is a split EP from our respective projects Sweet Sweater and Owen the Descender (exciting note: it’s the first new OTD release in over 20 years 😱). Each of us chose two covers from the 80s and the 2000s to record and put our little spin on. (Why did we skip the 90s, you may ask? Check back with us later on that, as the plan is for this to be the first of a series…) Some of them have more of a spin than the others, but all have one thing in common - they were super fun to work on. We hope you enjoy and have an excellent long weekend! 🤘🥳🍾
