According to IFRS reporting, LUKOIL received 565 billion rubles in profit for the first half of 2023. Of these, 302.6 billion rubles were received in the first quarter.
This is Lukoil's first reporting since the end of 2021. With the introduction of sanctions due to the conduct of Russia's ‘Special Military Operation’, Lukoil, like many Russian companies, stopped publishing consolidated financial statements.

For the first quarter of 2021, Lukoil’s profit amounted to 302.6 billion, for the first half of the year – 348 billion. Revenue for the first half of the year amounted to 3.6 trillion rubles. The company has 1 trillion in cash equivalent on its balance sheet.

Just like in the U.S., further raises will make borrowing and spending more expensive pushing the smaller owners and labour aristocrats into the depths of proletarianization, but wages are rising too fast and capitalism needs utterly impoverished workers.

Up to 10,000 are feared dead in Derna, Libya, as the catastrophic Storm Daniel, a weather front which caused the flooding in Greece, has caused historic destruction.

A year's worth of rain fell on the city in one day, causing dams to burst and the city to flood. Rescuers are slow due to the decimation of state structures during the many years of civil war in Libya and poorly maintained infrastructure.

After recent wildfires devastated Greece, the country found herself inundated with unprecedented rainfall and flooding.

The Greek region of Thessaly was hardest hit with rivers bursting their banks and flooding hundreds of villages and towns, sweeping away roads and bridges and leaving thousands trapped. Climate change is being used by the Greek state to hide the fact that the infrastructure built by the Greek bourgeoisie was defective in order to increase profits.

Over 70 square kilometers have been flooded leading to a quarter of the crops from this year's harvest being lost; in addition, it'll take years for this key agricultural region to be fertile again as the floods have left a thick layer of mud.

Greece is a microcosm of what the world will face due to capitalist production's erosion of natural stability; the inability for capitalism to resolve this is evident. The behavior of the government and private companies has been to take advantage and profit from the crisis.

This is what awaits workers all over the world: faulty infrastructure; state & private looting; food scarcity; extreme weather events one after another; poverty and death. Only a socialist, planned economy can meet the crisis head on and address the chaos of capitalism.

The incidence of tuberculosis and hepatitis in Russia continues to grow, especially among children, which is an alarming phenomenon. In the first five months of this year, according to the latest report of Rospotrebnadzor on infectious diseases, an increase in the incidence of these infections among children under the age of 14 was uncovered. The number of cases in which children were first diagnosed with TB increased by 17% (to 703 cases), with the largest increase, respiratory diseases, rising by 19% (to 666 cases). Yesterday, a new president took office in Azerbaijan's breakaway "Artsakh Republic", and the same day a deal was put into action to reopen the borders and allow goods to enter the region of Nagorno-Karabakh once again.

Since December of last year, Nagorno-Karabakh has been under a tight blockade during Azerbaijan's attempts at 'integration' of the Armenian-majority area which it captured in the 2020 war with Armenia.

Now, in agreement with the Azeris, officials in the region have declared a new import crossing at Askeran where trucks from the Russian Red Cross will bring relief goods. Back in July, the 'Artsakh' government had formally denied accusations by Azerbaijan about the transportation of Red Cross aid supplies at the Askeran crossing.

Russian peacekeepers and the International Red Cross now agree to transport aid to Nagorno-Karabakh through the previously-blocked Lachin corridor, in order to address the severe crisis in access to food and basic goods.

More and more people in Germany are abandoning the church — less than half of the population belong to any of the major Christian churches operating in the country.

According to the results of a representative poll by the YouGov Institute of Public Opinion, nearly three quarters of German residents — 74% — consider the church tax obsolete. Only 13% of respondents consider the tax necessary.

The German Conference of Bishops reported that the Catholic Church in Germany received €6.8 billion in taxes in 2022. The Evangelical Church received €6.2 billion.

The Department for Education has said the list of structurally unsafe schools are those that surveyors had deemed unsafe before 30 August; schools that were found to have unsafe concrete after that date haven't been included.

The panic caused by the serious risk of buildings collapsing on children has raised concern over other buildings, especially hospitals, which are now urgently being investigated for the same defective material. To the capitalist ruling class, horrible tragedy is worth just a few pounds saved.
