How Can We
I am so disheartened with our nation’s part in the ethnic cleansing and genocide of a nation. Not surprised as that is what this nation was built upon but truly discouraged nonetheless.
It saddens me: the collective silence
How we all go about our days
Go to our jobs (myself included) because there are bills to pay and mouths to feed
And we post photos of our lunch, our pets our kids, those measures of happiness that give this life meaning
But we stay silent. We will pontificate over people’s part in historical atrocities such as the Holocaust and go on ad nauseam about if we lived in those times what we would have done.
Just know those words are worthless, meaningless drivel. What you would have done is exactly what you are doing in this moment as our nation aides in yet another genocide of the Palestinian people. the native/indigenous peoples of that land by financing and providing an arsenal to the Israel settlers with the goal of eradication to take more land for themselves.
Silence hides violence. I will say it again: Silence. Hides. Violence. So why are you so silent? That silence is deafening. Are you afraid to speak up? Do you feel that you are only one person, one voice? Are you paralyzed by the immensity of the situation? Does it put your beliefs in a juxtaposition? Good to all of that. It means you recognize the impact of this moment in history. But now imagine the collective fear and outrage of a population that has been in their own Holocaust for decades. Imagine the fear of them knowing they are in the final moments before those showers and this time the world stage is quite aware of their situation and doing NOTHING to intervene, NOTHING to speak to the evils happening to them. We are all aware and are doing worse than impotency.
Friends: your word is your power! Break the spell of silence with your word! You can be vocal, blow up (metaphorically) your representatives phones at all levels of government. Be witness in this moment so that Palestinians are not discarded by you too as our nation assists in laying waste to them. Stand in solidarity with the mothers and fathers, grandparents and children that are staring death in the face. We cannot shy away from this. We must face it with courage. Your word is your magic! Use it. Lives are literally counting on it. This genocide only stops if the world demands it and each of us will strengthen that demand.
