A 35-year-old male from Pennfield was arrested following an incident involving a weapon in Utopia, N.B.

On August 1, 2023, at approximately 3:40 p.m., members of the West District RCMP received a report of a male armed with a weapon in front of an address on Route 785, in Utopia. Members attended quickly and arrested the male without incident. The RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) assisted with the arrest.

On August 2, 2023, Cody Joseph Babineau appeared in Provincial Court in Saint John and was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and failure to comply with a Judge’s Undertaking.

He was remanded in custody and will reappear in court on August 8, 2023 for his bail hearing.

The St. George RCMP is asking for the public's help following an attempted break and enter, and an assault in the community.

On July 24, 2023 at approximately 4:30 a.m., members of the St. George RCMP detachment responded to a report of an attempted break and enter at a residence on Campbell Road. A home owner interrupted a group of individuals who were attempting to break into a garage, and was assaulted by the individuals. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result, and the individuals fled the scene before police arrived.

Anyone who lives in the area and witnessed suspicious activity, who has surveillance footage from the time of the incident, or who has information that could help further the investigation, is asked to contact the St. George RCMP at 506-755-1130. A 34-year-old man from Caithness, N.B., has been charged in connection with a break, enter and theft from a church in St. Stephen.

On May 6, 2023, members of the St. Stephen RCMP detachment responded to a report of break, enter and theft at a church on Union Street in the community. The individual(s) responsible forcefully gained entry to the church, stole two computers, and left before police arrived.

Through a subsequent investigation and assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section, police obtained fingerprint evidence at the scene, and were able to identify a suspect in connection with the investigation.

On July 11, police arrested a 34-year-old man after a brief foot chase in the area of Schoodic Street, in St. Stephen.

On July 12, Jeremy Travis McLeese appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and was charged with break, enter and theft, theft under $5000, and obstructing a peace officer. In addition to the charges, four warrants of arrest were executed on Jeremy McLeese in relation to previously outstanding charges.

He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on July 26 at 9:30 a.m.

Four youths from the Saint John, N.B., area, have been arrested in connection with a break, enter and theft in St. George.

On July 15, 2023, at approximately 9:45 a.m., members of the St. George RCMP detachment responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a seasonal residence on Cluster Point Lane. Four individuals entered the residence and stole a number of items before fleeing the scene on a stolen all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with a trailer before police arrived.

Within the hour, police were able to track down the four suspects who had fled into a wooded area nearby. Four youths from the Saint John area were arrested, and all of the stolen property, including the stolen ATV and trailer, was recovered and will be returned to its rightful owner(s).

The four youths were later released, and are scheduled to appear in Saint John Provincial Court on September 6 at 9 a.m.

"The West District RCMP is currently investigating a number of property related crimes, and are reminding property owners to remain vigilant and take steps to secure their property," says Sgt. Chris Henderson with the St. George RCMP. "The public are our eyes and ears, it's important that you report any suspicious activity to police so that it can be investigated thoroughly."

The investigation is ongoing.

The St. George RCMP is seeking the public's help following a break, enter and theft in Second Falls, N.B.

The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between June 26, and June 29, 2023, at a residence on Red Rock Road in Second Falls, N.B. The incident was reported to police on June 29. An individual or individuals forcefully gained entry to the residence, and stole a number of items including the following fi****ms:

1. 12-Gauge Wi******er shotgun
2. Browning rifle
3. Marlin rifle
4. Swedish Mosin-Nagant rifle
5. Russian Mosin-Nagant rifle
6. R***r 10/22 rifle
7. R***r American rifle

The suspect(s) also stole the following tools and power equipment:

1. Jonsered 2149 turbo chainsaw
2. Jonsered 2245 chainsaw
3. 3 x 5-gallon gas jugs
4. 10 000-watt Duramax generator
5. 3000-Watt Honda inverter generator
6. 3000-Watt inverter generator (unknown make)
7. 3000-Watt GE Inverter generator

"The Saint John Police are advising the public that there has been a recent spike in thefts from vehicles in Saint John.

Our Crime Analyst is reporting that thefts from vehicles are up approximately 72% in the first four months of 2023 over the same period last year."
