Title: Keep This Off The Record
Author: Arden Joy
Summary: Abigail Meyer and Freya Jonsson can’t stand one another. But could their severe hatred be masking something else entirely?
From the moment they locked eyes in high school, Abby and Freya have been at each other’s throats. Ten years later, when Abby and Freya cross paths again, their old rivalry doesn’t take more than a few minutes to begin anew.
And now Naomi, Abby’s best friend, is falling for Freya’s producer and close pal, Will. Both women are thrilled to see their friends in a happy relationship—except they are now only a few degrees of separation from the person they claim to despise … and they can’t seem to avoid seeing one another.
Keep This off the Record is a fun and fresh LGBTQIA+ story about the freedom to be who you are, even if that means falling for the person you hate.

Copy provided by in exchange for honest review.
Likes: An adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing! Love the Jewish representation. Side characters are a big part of the story.
Dislikes: Lacking character development and not much background on their high school history which is the root of their dislike for each other.

Mistakes Were Made
Meryl Wilsner
When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school’s Family Weekend, she isn’t looking for a hookup―it just happens. Buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, amazing one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around and her friend drags her along to meet her mom―the hot, older woman Cassie slept with.
Erin Bennett came to Family Weekend to get closer to her daughter, not have a one-night stand with a college senior. In her defense, she hadn’t known Cassie was a student when they'd met. To make things worse, Erin’s daughter brings Cassie to breakfast the next morning. And despite Erin's better judgement―how could sleeping with your daughter’s friend be anything but bad?―she and Cassie get along in the day just as well as they did last night.
What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about the love between them worth the cost?

The Wicked and The Willing by Lianyu Tan
(Description) Love demands sacrifice. Her blood. Her body. Even her life.
Singapore, 1927.
Verity Edevane needs blood.
And not just anyone's blood. She craves the sweet, salty rush from a young woman's veins, the heady swirl of desire mixed with fealty—such a rarity in this foreign colony. It’s a lot to ask. But doesn't she deserve the best?
Gean Choo needs money.
Mrs. Edevane makes her an offer Gean Choo can't refuse. But who is her strange, alluring new mistress? What is she? And what will Gean Choo sacrifice to earn her love?
Po Lam needs absolution.
After decades of faithfully serving Mrs. Edevane, Po Lam can no longer excuse a life of bo***ge and murder. She needs a fresh start. A clean conscience. More than anything, she needs to save Gean Choo from a love that will destroy them all.
~
(Review)We’ve officially moved into spooky season and this book is perfectly fitting for this time of year. A f/f vampire love triangle set in 1920s Singapore. There are some triggers in this book so proceed with caution. That being said, I thought Lianyu Tan created a wonderful story. Throughout the book I found it hard to like Mrs. Edevane, but I’m sure that was the intention. The main character, Gean Choo is infatuated with Mrs. Edevane, but is drawn to Po Lam the more time they spend together.
What makes this book stand out is the ‘choose your own ending’! I won’t tell you which ending I chose but I will say I only read one ending. I didn’t want to cloud my perception of the story by reading them both.
Give this one a read and tell me which ending you chose!

Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail is the second in the series by Ashley Herring Blake. I absolutely loved the first book, Delilah Green Doesn’t Care so I was incredibly excited to get an ARC copy from NetGalley], and it DELIVERED!

If you read the first book in the series you know that Astrid Parker’s engagement to her fiancé ended before they made it to the altar. Since then, Astrid has been focusing on her job to keep her mind distracted from her perceived failure of a relationship. When she gets the opportunity to renovate the local Everwood Inn for the hit renovation tv show, Innside America, she sees it as an opportunity to boost her struggling business, and finally get her mother’s approval.

Enter Jordan Everwood, granddaughter of Pru Everwood, owner of the Everwood Inn. Jordan is fresh off a heartbreak when her twin brother convinces her to come back to their hometown to be the lead carpenter during the renovation. She’s reluctant, but her life has just exploded and she wants to make sure the renovation is done in the best interest of her grandmother.

As you may have guessed there’s tension. Jordan wants to preserve the character and charm that makes the Everwood Inn special, but Astrid has a vision of minimal and modern. This conflict is noticed by the host of Innside America and they suggest Jordan and Astrid play up the tension to boost ratings.

Along the way the tension between Jordan and Astrid turns into romance but I don’t want to share too much. This book comes out to the general public on November 22. Be sure to get yourself a copy!

Over the Moon With You by Jaime Clevenger

Paige is a veterinarian who is living with her mother temporarily until she can find a house on some land to buy, fulfilling her dream of having her own farm. But when Paige’s mother gets injured she asks Paige to fill in for her at the water aerobics class she teaches. Paige has never taken, let alone taught, a water aerobics class, but she feels like she owes her mom for letting her move back home, and her mom swears teaching the class is easy to do. What could go wrong?

Seren’s back in town to sell her mother’s house, who passed away after a battle with cancer. But so far, Seren hasn’t been able to bring herself to put the house on the market. She’s busy being a massage therapist and, oh yeah, growing a baby. Seren’s OBGYN has recommended she try water aerobics, in lieu of her normal exercise regimen, for the rest of her pregnancy, and at her very first class she runs into Paige, the new/temporary instructor. Literally…runs into Paige, knocking her into the pool. What a meet-cute!

There’s instant chemistry between the two and neither of them can deny it. But Seren didn’t plan on staying in town permanently and she vowed to focus on herself and her new baby; there isn’t room in her life for a girlfriend. So they try just being friends, and it works for a minute. The sparks catch fire and the two women start falling head over heels for each other.

Paige is ready to be anything and everything for Seren, but Seren isn’t sure what she wants her future to look like and ends up pushing Paige away. Love and lust and family and friendship weaved together to make this a fantastic sapphic love story. Pick up this book to find out for yourself how great it is!

Crybaby: Infertility, Illness, and Other Things That Were Not the End of the World by Cheryl E. Klein.
A self-described crybaby who sees the end of the world lurking around every corner, Cheryl E. Klein has relied on planning and hard work to reach her goals and avoid catastrophe. But when she and her partner find their plans for a baby dashed over and over—first by infertility, then miscarriage, and finally a breast cancer diagnosis—Klein’s carefully structured life, marriage, and belief system begin to crumble. Adding a detour through the fickle world of open adoption seems like the last thing she should do; yet where she lacks control, she finds adventure. Empathetic, candid, and often humorous, Crybaby is the story of what happens when a failed perfectionist and successful hypochondriac is forced to make room in her life for grief and joy, fear and hope, all at the same time.

First things first, I need to make it known that I liked this book. I say that because of my next statement. This book made me uncomfortable at times and gave me anxiety! The author worried so much that I was getting second hand anxiety from reading it. There were times when I felt sad for her, times when I couldn’t help but question her decision making, but ultimately I just wanted her to get through it. Knowing this is about another person’s real life experiences probably heightened my anxiety because it is all true, and no one wants to see other people experience tragedy. I want to recommend this book to readers, but I want to caution you to be ready to feel your feelings!

I love a book set in the midwest, since that is where I hail from, and Q***rly Beloved is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Our main character, Amy, is a baker by trade and moonlights as a bar tender in a q***r bar. In order to get the experience needed to become a the baker she wants to be, she made the difficult choice to remain closeted in order to snag a job at the best bakery in town; one that is owned by a very conservative family. But when Amy is accidentally outed and her boss fires her, she stumbles her way into running her own bridesmaid-for-hire business.

Right before Amy was fired, she had a chance meeting with a new woman in town, Charley, and offers to show her around Tulsa. Charley’s backstory doesn’t occupy much space in this story, but the two appear to be a match made in heaven.

Unfortunately, Amy struggles morally with making her living from an industry that doesn’t always afford equal opportunities to those in the q***r community; and as much as Charley seems like she might be “the one”, their relationship has many struggles as it tries to get off the ground. I enjoyed this story but you’ll have to read it for yourself to find out how it ends.

A Little Bit Country-
Emmett is a teenage boy from Illinois who wants to be the first out, gay, country superstar. Problem is, he’s a teenager from Illinois. Luckily his aunt lives in Tennessee in the same city as the amusement park, Wanda World, that’s owned by his all time favorite country idol, Wanda Jean Stubbs (think Dollywood). His aunt also happens to be dating an executive who works at Wanda World who got him a job singing and performing there for the summer. Emmett is sure this is his first step toward his country music superstar dreams.

Luke is an angsty teen and hating country music is in his blood. His grandmother, Verna Rose, was a successful country singer who had a nasty falling out with Wanda Jean and ever since, his family has hated country music, and anything to do with Wanda Jean. But Luke’s mom has a chronic illness and the bills are piling up, so he takes a job at a Wanda World restaurant for the summer to help make ends meet. But he keeps it a secret from his family.

Emmett and Luke run into each other, literally, at Wanda World and they have an instant connection, but every first love has its problems. Teenage summer love, family drama, coming out…this book is chock full of plot and it was a very sweet story. Two thumbs up!

You think YOUR mom is bad…Sarah Campbell’s mother is an actual eco-terrorist. It’s bad enough her mom thinks if you aren’t actively trying to save the planet, you’re trying harm it, but Sarah might also, just happen to work for a company that isn’t known for being the most eco-friendly company. But Sarah is trying to change that from the inside!
Sarah has been sent to live in a tiny, run down cottage, in a remote village on the coast of Scotland to lead testing on a new project that will change the game in her industry. Her cover story to her extremist mom is that she’s fallen madly in love, and is moving to the country to be with her girlfriend.
Enter Pippa Kent. A retired structural engineer and handy-person who moved away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and the memories of her deceased wife. Pippa and Sarah get off to a rocky start but Pippa’s fix-it skills are necessary to renovate the cottage she’s living in.
Pippa and Sarah’s friendship is progressing at quite a clip when Sarah’s mother says she’s coming to town. In a panic, Sarah convinces Pippa to pose as her live-in girlfriend so her mother won’t discover the real reason she moved to the quiet hamlet. You’ll have to read the book to find out how it ends. 😏

The Temperature of Me and You by is a young adult fiction tale about two teenagers who fall in love. You’ve heard that trope before, right? But WAIT! There’s a twist. Dylan Highmark is 16 years old and is the only gay guy in his high school. He spends his time outside of school working part-time at Dairy Queen and the rest of the time he’s hanging out with his best friends, Kirsten and Perry.
They’re all worried about finishing high school and what comes next, but the one thing Dylan wasn’t ready for was Jordan Ator. A story common to many first loves…when Jordan and Dylan meet, they experience an explosion! In this case, it’s a real explosion. Jordan was the sole survivor of an electric vehicle malfunction and subsequent crash that killed both his parents. Although Jordan survived the crash, he was left permanently changed due to the hydrogen battery explosion. Little does Jordan know he can transfer this affliction to those he gets too close to. Unfortunately Dylan finds that out the hard way. You’ll have to read this book to find out exactly how these two young gay men survive their explosive first love.

All the Things We Don’t Talk about by -
Morgan Flowers is a typical teenager. That is, Morgan is a gender non-conforming teenager whose alcoholic, free-spirit mother, Zoe, left when they were just a baby, leaving Morgan to be raised by their neurodivergent dad, Julian, and up until her death, their grandmother.
Morgan and Julian had found balance in boundaries and repetition, and Morgan was experiencing their first love. Then Zoe comes crashing back into their lives after her breakup with Brigid, and Morgan is intrigued at the prospect of having their mom back in their life again. Brigid and Julian long ago became unlikely penpals after bonding over their shared heartbreak caused by Zoe’s drinking and her non-conforming lifestyle, and Brigid tries to help Julian navigate the fallout of Zoe’s return to Morgan and Julian’s lives, but Zoe’s problems prove to be a disaster for everyone involved.
There is clearly a lot going on in this story but the author did a great job of weaving a tale that portrays a tragically beautiful story of a modern family.

So Happy For You by .laskey was NOT what I was expecting but it was fantastic! Robin and Ellie have been BFFs forever. Robin is a q***r feminist who doesn’t believe in the institution of marriage and she has a beautiful relationship with her long time partner, Aimee. That’s not a plot line we haven’t seen before, right? BUT…this story takes place in a sort of fictional reality where the institution of marriage is even more absurdly pushed upon women than it is today. There are apps created specifically to find someone who wants to get married, think of present day dating apps on steroids, and there are “charms” performed by brides-to-be in the hopes that they’ll bring luck and longevity to their marriage. It just so happens those charms are usually…insane. When Ellie becomes engaged to her fiancée, Kaivan, and asks Robin to be her Maid Of Honor, Robin isn’t sure if she should fill that role even though they’ve been friends for a very long time. Robin reluctantly agrees and gets more than, or perhaps exactly, what she bargained for. This is a suspenseful story that you’re sure to enjoy! ***rbookstagram ***rrepresentationmatters ***rbookclub

I’ve got another fantastic book to recommend for pride month! I just finished The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School. I burned through it in two days because I was so enraptured by the stories of Yamilet and Bo and Cesar and Jamal. I hate crying but I love admitting that a book is so good it made my eyes misty (numerous times). I also laughed out loud a few times, so this book has a lot to offer. I don’t want to give away any details because, who am I kidding, there’s so much I could say I would spoil it for you! You just need to go read it for yourself! That being said there are some sensitive topics portrayed in this story so check out the TW before you commit. The author is .reyes and I CANNOT wait to read more of their stories. ***rromance ***rrepresentationmatters

Synopsis: Beth and Fran spend their days traveling the ravaged New England coast, hunting feral men and harvesting their organs in a gruesome effort to ensure they'll never face the same fate.

Robbie lives by his gun and one hard-learned motto: other people aren't safe.

After a brutal accident entwines the three of them, this found family of survivors must navigate murderous TERFs, a sociopathic billionaire bunker brat, and awkward relationship dynamics―all while outrunning packs of feral men, and their own demons.

Review: I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It immerses you in a reality that’s probably never as far away as we might think it is. A world where everyone must constantly fight for their own survival and never knowing if their loved ones will make it through another day. This story may not be for every reader as it’s main theme is based around anti-LGBTQ2IA violence. That being said, it kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see how relationships will change, if they would last through the next night, and would the protagonists outwit the antagonist? I became easily attached to Robbie and Beth, and it was always interesting to see things through the eyes of Ramona of the Legion (aka the bad folx). If you are looking for a survivalist thriller and don’t mind violence and s*x, then this could be the next book for you. Book provided by . ***rbookstagram ***rbookclub

I was granted a copy of Pleasure & Spice from in exchange for an honest review and I was pleasantly surprised at this read. This is the first book I’ve read by author Fiona Zedde, but it is the 6th Book in her How Sweet It Is series. That said, when I finished it I added most of her catalog to my TBR list.
I have read a few spicy novels recently but I especially enjoyed the balance of sensual detail in this book. It’s descriptiveness sucks you into the story and yet it isn’t weighed down by too much detail. At more than one point in the plot I thought for sure I knew what the ending would be, but the story had a couple of twists I didn’t expect.
If you’re a fan of powerful and beautiful BIPOC characters, if you enjoy WLW fiction and don’t mind a bit of M/F intimacy, if you like a story with a love triangle and drama, then I KNOW you will enjoy this book.
Well done ! ***rbookstagram ***rrepresentation

28/12/2021

I was lucky enough to be chosen to get to read an ARC of The Map to You. It’s the first book I have read by this author but I don’t believe it will be the last. This book is about being young, being q***r, being in love, and how messy and complicated life and family can be in amongst all those other things, which is why I think it resonated with me so much.
I certainly made my share of bad decisions in college when I was trying to figure out who I was and who I wanted to be. There were moments when I thought the author had somehow been able to hijack my memories and some of my experiences and she put them into this story! I don’t think she did (who can ever really know😏) but I do think that speaks to how many shared experiences we have with our peers even when we seem worlds apart.
Cheers to a wonderful q***r story, and I really hope you all get your hands on a copy of this when it’s released on 1/25/22. ***rbookstagram 🌈 ***rbookclub ***rrepresentationmatters ***anliterature ***rlit
