Sharing from my friend, Amy:
Dear Fellow Believers. It’s time to draw a line in the sand. Should believers in the Word of God celebrate, honor or acknowledge any form of Halloween?
Typically, I shy away from what some might see as “controversial” posts, leaning towards focusing on what is holy, righteous and good!
However, this time of year, the topic of Halloween is one that is hard to avoid. I wanted to start off by stating this post is in no way trying to judge or condemn, but one that is lovingly trying to highlight what the Word of God has to say.
For me, like many in the Christian Faith, we at one time believed that it was our duty to “Christianize” all things, bringing Christ to the center and meaning of any day, event, etc. While this may sound good on the surface, is it truly what we are called to do? The approach we should take? Is it even biblical?
Over the last decade, reading through the Scriptures, I’ve been greatly convicted about what the Word of God has to say regarding this subject.
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! - Isaiah 5:20
Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.
- Ephesians 5:11
Test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
This is what the LORD says: "Do not learn the ways of the nations. - Jeremiah 10:2
Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. - Romans 12:2
For the Scriptures say, "You must be holy because I am holy. - 1 Peter 1:16
Who can bring clean out of unclean? No one!
- Job 14:4
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. - Ephesians 6:12
A simple Google search will show that this day has nothing to do with the God of the Bible or the ways in which He calls His people to act. In fact it stands in direct opposition to all that is holy, righteous and good.
Sadly, participating in these traditions teach our children as well as the outside world observing us as believers, that it’s, “A OK” to compromise the Word of God. That it’s, “OK” to compromise on abstaining from evil, as long as it doesn’t appear evil or is “just for fun” because, “God knows my heart!”
Believers, we do not have to look like the world, in order to witness to the world about the God we serve! Instead, when we stand apart, separate, and holy, we will be most effective in being a light and showing Jesus (Yeshua) to the nations!
