The book of Revelation has such dramatic visions to impress upon us spiritual realities that we don’t see clearly in our physical realm. It is a letter written by the Apostle John to Christians going through tribulation, a prophesy of how God addresses his people facing trouble and temptation in the world.

This week’s article is a sequel to the one a couple weeks ago about nations being God’s idea. Some people call patriotic Christians in America“Christian nationalists,” or even worse, “white Christian nationalists.” The critical assumption is that these people are also attempting to establish an exclusively Christian nation now, with no room for people of other faiths.

The Hickory Reading Club meeting of January ninth, in the Hickory Baptist Church fellowship hall, was hosted by Mary Ann Bond and Stacey Cook, who served a buffet of comfort-food soups and resolutions-breaking desserts. Phyllis Cain's devotional, based on Psalm 73 and Hebrews, encouraged continuing to remember God as a source of daily strength.

Over the course of January, we experienced some very cold weather and a chance of winter precipitation on a couple of different occasions. When a chance of severe winter weather is possible, schools and businesses must make the tough decision to close or remain open. Due to predicted winter weather last week, Union Public School District had to make this decision last Tuesday.

Mississippi State Senator Bradford Blackmon has put himself at the center of a national conversation, and not for the reasons we might hope. On January 20, 2025, Blackmon introduced the provocatively titled “Contraception Begins at Er****on Act.” The bill would criminalize a man’s discharge of “genetic materials” without the intent to fertilize an embryo.
